Here is Houston's Big East contract.

Paragraph 9 states that our buyout reduces from $5M to $1M if, prior to the effective day (July 1, 2013), total conference revenue declines 25% from the prior fiscal year.

Since what we are losing is FUTURE TV revenue, I don't see how this applies.

I don't know that it was Dodd....

I find it interesting that the Idaho Statesman had almost the exact same story released, but featuring Boise St. contract within minutes of the CBS piece by Dodd.

Somebody fed this story to them.

same stipulation in the boise and sdsu contract too, and, yes, that's not happening anyway

A four-letter network?

Who knows, but it definitely seems intentional.

RE: Houston had its own set of stipulations to join Big East
UH is joining the nBE unless the apocalypse happens:

* UH joins the Big East best-case scenario:
BIG - Maryland/Rutgers
ACC - UConn or Louisville
nBE - No other defections, and adds AFA and BYU (who are seeing the handwriting on the wall)

* UH joins the Big East worst-case scenario:
BIG - Maryland/Rutgers
ACC - UConn or Louisville (several BB schools join ACC)
BIG XII - Louisville/Cincinnati/etc.
nBE - Boise State/San Diego State/Navy back out; ECU/Tulsa/Ohio/UMass/etc. (and BB-only schools to replace defectors)

* UH joins the ACC best-case scenario:
BIG - Maryland/North Carolina/Virginia/Rutgers
BIG XII - Florida State/Clemson/North Carolina State/Louisville
ACC - UH/SMU/UConn/Cincinnati/USF/UCF

* UH joins the BIG XII in a pipe-dream scenario (for UH fans):
BIG - Maryland/Rutgers
PAC 10 - Texas/OU/Texas Tech/OSU
ACC - West Virginia or Louisville
BIG XII - UH/SMU/Boise State/Louisville or Cincinnati

* Edited to clear up some grammar, etc.

Why is the ACC adding two schools in scenarios 1, 2 and 4? They're only losing Maryland.

They all downloaded the same contract from legalzoom.

The Mountain West has a chance to form a solid conference. BYU, Boise, Houston, SDSU, Air Force, Fresno, UNLV, Tulsa, Colo. St., ect. This expansion stuff is crazy. They could actually show the BE the proper way to form a good balanced regional conference.

The MW is locked into a horrible contract until 2019...can't see why anyone would want to go there. Especially Houston and SMU. We are going to pay the CUSA exit fee to make less money than CUSA? Really?

It's sad when the Big East has to stoop down to allow these stipulations just to convince a team like Houston to join.

Or it's intelligent contract negotiation by UH admin...depends on how you look at it.
