Bye Week - Recruiting Weekend
Pitt has a bye this weekend and the coaches are going to use that time to have a big recruiting weekend. Anyone expecting any commits? Any chance they can sway Johnson and Foster? Although Johnson says Pitt is the leader, it seems he's headed to Ohio State.

Unsure if there will be any commits this weekend, but I do think there will be a plethora of recruits at the Pitt-Rutgers game next weekend.

RE: Bye Week - Recruiting Weekend
It would be great to get a commitment from Foster. I think Johnson is a lost cause regardless of what he says. Nothing has changed about Pitt since he de-committed from Penn State. Ohio State would look like a leader for him if he is still interested in big crowds and atmosphere, etc.

Hopefully we have a big weekend, but I kind of doubt it.

I would agree with you ndlutz, if O$U really wants DJ then he will be a Buckeye. However, if they have enough lineman and they are slow recruiting him then he might get frustrated and end up a Panther.

Another thing to note is that Chryst and his staff at Wisconsin didn't recruit like gangbusters but produced great results, especially along the OL. I'm willing to give Chryst a chance to see if he can do the same here.

This is especially important because while I do think Pitt can recruit better than Wisconsin on average should we have the same type of success that they have there, we will never recruit like Ohio State. We're going to need top notch coaching to build talent that was in some instances left behind by the major players.

Now, the way I see it, Pitt could have a good football team based almost exclusively on talent alone. We do get our fair share of top tier talent - McCoy, Shell, Baldwin, Mason, Hale, Clemmings, etc. In order to be a really good team, though, we are going to need some guys to pan out that aren't expected to be huge contributors and I think this is where Chryst will ultimately shine for us. We may be able to do more with less than we have in the past say under Wannstedt.

Maybe I'm just crazy, though!

A lot of presumptions in this thread. Maybe it's hopefulness?

What presumptions? I'm not sensing the hopefulness besides what I posted.

The only presumption I saw was that ndlutz thinks DJ will end up at O$U... what it hopeful about that?

...and I presumed if O$U wants him then they will get him. Again, what is hopeful about that?

Precisely, as you posted, the part regarding recruiting and coaching outcomes. I'd say that's hopeful wouldn't you? Nothing wrong with it.

Is there a presumption that Johnson is not going to Pitt? That seems to come out in this thread. It seems presumed he is not coming. Not you specifically. Is this based on anything tangible? I assume you guys actually live out there so perhaps there is inside information. Seems like the typical chase of a national type recruit so is the negativity really justified?

Maybe animus has some insight.

I think your confused on what is being presumed about specific recruiting and being hopeful about outcomes for Chryst in general.

Anyway, I will ask a direct question on the DJ front which is what I'm really probing for. Since you say OSU takes him if they want him. On what basis? Maybe you have sources out there.

Has anyone seen an OSU thread on the topic?

RE: Bye Week - Recruiting Weekend
My thoughts are that its impossible to get into the mind of a 17/18 year old kid so I don't try. Too many "insiders" try to come up with baseless insights, sometimes they're right, sometimes they're wrong. The problem is, is that these "insiders" place idea's into fans heads that Recruit A is leading Pitt on and isn't really considering Pitt. If Recruit A picks Pitt, I'll be ecstatic. If he doesn't so be it. I'm happy for any Mon Valley kid just because he's going to get a great education and will make something out of himself.

Has anyone seen an OSU thread on the topic?

On the basis that he already committed to PSU because he stated and I quote, "I want to play big time football in front of 100K people." That isn't any kind of a source other than a quote from the kid himself in an article. He also said in another article, that he "has spoken to the Pitt staff about playing as a freshman". That is another quote.

If O$U shows him enough love that he thinks he can play early? Then he will pick 100K fans like HE said. However, O$U brought in two 4 star OT's last year and already have another 4 star OT ranked higher than DJ this year. So, maybe they feel they are good and are spending more time showing love to other positions of need? That, I have no idea, but the thought of playing early really is the only reason he is interested in Pitt. Before you ask, no I don't have any sources, I read articles, quotes and look at recruiting lists and am able to put two and two together. This is a message board by the way; I can end up being wrong as I have no journalistic integrity on the line.
