RE: Akron
I really don't care how bad or how close the game is but expect a good game from UA! It won't be a walkover by any stretch but you really have to like our staff, attitude and bounce in our step. These aren't 16-17 year old kids and I think they know the importance of this rung on their ladder. There is too much on the line with a conference title, wagon wheel, and they've worked too hard to coast the rest of the way. You can believe DH will get them to know the importance of this game.

RE: Akron
I just watched Terry Bowden's press conference. Sounds like CrAkron is playing a tough team this week. Now just for fun, watch without the sound. Did Bowden play as an extra on The Sopranos? Seriously all he needs is a gold chain. I hope we beat them so bad, their grandmas are embarrassed.

-As of 10/30/12 @ 11:37pm EST, the line in LV is 19....dropped 2 already.....
-I love this comment from a realistic fan rooting for the Zips for this weekend's Wagon Wheel showdown:
BigZip: "The title of this thread is What next?
What's next is a complete ass beating by our rival. Do you ever remember being 20 point underdogs to K.E.N.T.?
I'd take K.E.N.T and lay the points all damn day log....this is your opportunity to get rich."

The more I think about it, Terry Bowden is a perfect representative of the University of Akron in so many ways.
Bet he knows how to pronounce Dri's name after Saturday. Coach, our turnover margin is positive-best in the NCAA at +19.

RE: Akron
The Wagon Wheel Series
Saturday marks the 55th time the rivals face off on the gridiron in a series that dates back to 1923. Since 1946, the Wagon Wheel has been the prize to the winner, with the Golden Flashes leading the series 21-19-1. The wheel itself dates back to the middle of the 19th century.
• Legendary stories abound as to the roots of the Wagon Wheel...Perhaps the foremost is the one that includes John R. Buchtel, the founder of Buchtel College, which eventually became the University of Akron...It was said that Buchtel in the spring of 1870, began a horse wagon search for a site for a proposed college around Kent...Legend has it that Buchtel's wagon became stuck in a pool of mud somewhere on the present site of Kent State University...The wheel remained embedded in the ground and was just a piece of wood when it was found in 1902.
• The wheel was eventually in the possession of Dr. Raymond Manchester, who was the dean of men at Kent State in the 1940s...He suggested the wheel as a reward to the winner of the Kent State-Akron game in 1946. Manchester had the wheel painted in the school colors (of both schools) blue and gold.
• The two campuses are just 11.6 miles apart, the sixth closest distance among two FBS schools. Rice and Houston is the closest at 6.1 miles.
• The Flashes are 13-8 at home in the Wagon Wheel series, including a 28-17 victory in 2010. Luke Batton recovered a fumble in the end zone with three minutes left, to give Kent State a two-possession lead. Luke Wollet returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter.
• Akron leads the all-time series 30-22-2. The Golden Flashes did not pick up a win in the series until 13th game in 1942 (Akron was 11-0-1). After that stretch, Kent State won 10 straight from 1942 - 1954. In 1974 the all-time series was tied 11-11-2...Since then Akron has won 17-of-28 meetings and 10 of the last 14.
• Arguably, the most famous Kent State victory came in 2003, when Josh Cribbs led a late comeback in a 41-38 victory at the Rubber Bowl.
• Last year in Akron, Trayion Durham ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns, while Spencer Keith completed 11-of-16 passes for two touchdowns in Kent State's 35-3 victory.
• In addition to the wheel itself being on the line, one point is also at stake in the second year of the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge. The competition includes 15 varsity sports, with victories in each sport addiding one point to the challenge standings. Last year, Kent State won 9.0-6.0.

RE: Akron
I can't tell you how excited I am for this game. After being at Homecoming, seeing downtown, listening to Ty call last week's game, I'm already past cloud 9. Coupled with the Kent State group that is meeting to watch the game in Raleigh, I'm pumped!

RE: Akron
Actual pylon from this game after storming the field. I expect Saturday to be much worse for the Zippy yo-yo's.

Before you visit the Zips, just know that you are reading "experts" on that site that actually mention Terry Bowden in the same class as Nick Saben.
It's time and mental energy you'll never get back.

RE: Akron
I plan on coming out tomorrow regardless of the weather. This is still a big game given the rivalry and to stay in first place in the MAC. I'm still unsure on how the crowd will be overall but they can count on my support
