Making a fairly short visit to Lafayette. Need advice on two specific things.

1. A place with good grilled/BBQ oysters.

2. Good place for music but not so loud to preclude conversation. If there is dancing or Zydeco all the better.

There is a place on Ambassador Caffery Pky called Phares, the grilled oysters are suppose to be really good there. A few miles down the road on Kaliste Saloom is a place called Randols...they have live Cajun/Zydeco music..also have seafood..not sure about the grilled oysters, though.

Enjoy your stay.

1) My new favorite place:

http://www.jolieslouisianabistro.com/

-best crab cakes I have ever had

2) Depends on what is your pleasure

Good place for dancing:

http://www.randols.com/bands.html

Or you can go downtown for the bar hopping experience:

1. You have a couple of good choices for oysters.

Shucks it's in Abbeville, just an extra 20 minutes down the road (Take Johnston street south until you run out of road) but completely worth it.
http://www.shucksrestaurant.com/ShucksMenu.pdf

Phares located on Ambassador Caffery and Johnston Street.

2. Live Cajun music with food -

Prejeans - Evangeline thruway (North Lafayette)
http://www.prejeans.com/index.html
Live music nightly

Randol's - Kaliste Saloom Rd near Ambassador
http://www.randols.com/

No one can say that we Cajuns don't have our priorities in order.

I tell people all the time that visiting Lafayette is like staying on a cruise ship, plan to gain 5 lbs!

Both Phares and Shucks are excellent for grilled oysters. Bit of trivia; the owner of Phares is the son of the founder of Shucks. He is also the son-in-law and brother-in-law of former Cajun footballers David Rogers and Baron Rogers.

Blue Moon Saloon is in the middle of downtown. You should check the calendar though to make sure it's Cajun/Zydeco
