Mutiny At Texas Tech
This sounds all too familiar to those of us who were around the UALR program in the 1993-94 season.

Sorry to read this. Billy is a very good friend of Steve's, so I know Steve will be upset to hear this. Wonder why Billy is in the hospital?

Shields has a pretty good temper himself. But I've never heard of any type of problems like this with his players, he's had a few with fans and coaches. Gillespie evidently has had problems like this before. That style of coaching is gone with the wind. Years ago, you'd find most athletes could take this type of coach. No more. They've got too many choices now. They can find plenty of coaches that will coddle them, as long as they can play..

IF the things these players say is true, the guy is a certifiable nut and ought to be run out of coaching. But you have to verify stuff like that first. Bizarre behavior.

He was certainly one of the rising stars in coaching a few years ago. Sad that he's having these problems. I hope he gets himself well, and manages to keep his job and do well at Texas Tech.

The thing is that I haven't seen any references to booze playing a part in any of the latest problems. This stuff just sounds like a coach totally over the top and out of control. Also, not showing up at any of the July recruiting venues is really wierd for Division I head coach.

Can't argue with that statement. Interesting to remember that Arkansas fired Stan Heath because they thought they had Gillespie in the bag. Probably a good thing for them he went to Kentucky instead.

More and more is coming out about this guy. Whoever hired him should be fired.

The Texas Tech AD:
"We would never hire anybody that we didn't believe was going to fulfill the mission of our department or not be a positive role model or educator or leader for the young people in our program. There were concerns prior to the hire but at the same time we felt like it was going to be a good hire for Texas Tech.''

Hmmm.

Sounds like Gillespie needs just to stay in the hospital. May be the safest place for him. Reckon his lawyer has made a trip or two to the hospital?
