What was the best line last night from Ryan's Speech?
Some of the good ones:

"...it's like sailing a ship with yesterday's wind."

"[paraphrasing] young college graduates living in their parents house, looking up at faded Obama posters, wondering when their future will start..."

I saw like five minutes of the convention while channel flipping and Huckabee had a good line

It was something like..

"Barack Obama does not think you built that, what he means is you don't own that"

You notice Robert accuses Ryan of throwing out lies and mistruths, but won't name one...

Come on Robert, put your money where your mouth is... or do you have to put your foot in your mouth?

As for his "stupidity"... If that's the BEST you've got for insults, give it up, you're proving even more and more you have _zilch_ with which to go after him over.

Hell, I'm a Republican and I've pointed out more legitimate issues with Ryan than you've ever brought up and defended, other than ad-hominid attacks. Because that's all you have.

RE: What was the best line last night from Ryan's Speech?
I'll go with the one that wasn't a lie. If there was one, and I don't remember that there was.

From FOX NEWS of all places:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/3...ree-words/
Quote:2. Deceiving

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.

Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States’ credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.

Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under President George W. Bush. Ryan actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to prevent other plants from closing.

Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn't what the president said. Period.

Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan.

Elections should be about competing based on your record in the past and your vision for the future, not competing to see who can get away with the most lies and distortions without voters noticing or bother to care. Both parties should hold themselves to that standard. Republicans should be ashamed that there was even one misrepresentation in Ryan’s speech but sadly, there were many.

I would say it'll be a rude awakening for you when Obama gets re-elected and promptly leads us into war with Iran (and/or Syria), but you'll surely find a way to justify it when he does it, just as you do with every other Bush on Steroids move he makes.

Nope.. fact was our credit rating was in danger with or without a debt ceiling raise.. That came from Moody's themselves!

Again, disproven... Obama said if he'd get govt. assistance (WHICH HE GOT) to retool the plant (WHICH DIDN'T HAPPEN) and not close. So basically he admitted in 2008 (by supporters, that he was planning on govt assistance, even before it was pushed out there)

But, if you want to get "nitpicky" (in favor of Obama), it didn't close, GM has said the plant is simply "idle"... I know that's little more than semantics..

Again, what's the line that he's been in danger from? "You didn't build that"... Anyone who thinks that he wasn't crediting the govt. really needs a hearing comprehension test (kinda like a reading comprehension test.)

Nope.. Again see the CBO's own June Analysis that says that 716B comes out of medicare!

Here's the part of this that that I don't get why Democrats don't see it.;...Let's just assume that it comes out of the reimbursement rates like you claim.

You do understand the meaning of the word "Reimbursement', right? That's money that Medicare now pays -Back- to the doctors/patients/health insurance/hospitals/drug companies/etc. (Basically paid BACK into the private sector!)

But 716B has been REMOVED from Reimbursement to pay for Obamacare.. .so it goes from being reimbursed back to the public center, and now goes to the government.

So again, Ryan was right.

As for it being in the Paul Budget suggestion, you forget that he put a moratorium on ANYONE who will be the age of 55 or older when it happens... (and it goes out the window if Obamacare is thrown away, if Republicans get the Senate in 2012-2013, because you won't have to PAY for Obamacare IF they repeal it if they win control of the Senate).

So whomever wrote this person who wrote this FOX article was wrong.... and they were wrong BADLY.

I'll be pissed if Obama does that. And I can't guarantee that he won't. But what I do know is after watching McCain's speech last night bashing sanctions and diplomacy, and reading how close the Bush team that brought us the Iraq War is to Romney, Romney would be a sure bet.

Christ dude.

It's still deceiving w/r/t the plant. It closed under Bush. If Ryan wanted to criticize Obama for not using government money to RE-OPEN the plant, he should have said so. But he didn't, because that doesn't have the same ring.

Yes Obamacare cut Medicare reimbursements to the private sector (insurance companies and hospitals). But Ryan misrepresents it in several ways. One, he included it in his own budget proposal that the House passed, so he's a hypocrite. Two, he's selling this "cut Medicare" notion to an audience of beneficiaries to convince them that their benefits might be impacted, even though they aren't. Three, the beneficiaries are actually helped by Obamacare because it closes the prescription drug donut hole. Fourth, it's not "removed" from anything (I assume you and Ryan mean the Medicare trust fund). It's a slowing of the growth of expenses. Money isn't being removed from the trust fund to pay for Obamacare. The trust fund's expenses over the next ten years is decreased by $700b. That's all, and you know it and he knows it.

The "You didn't build that" line clearly referred to roads and bridges. It was in the instantly preceding sentence. So we know what "that" was referring to (ie, the infrastructure and public goods that make success possible). If you can't admit that get over yourself.

And the kicker is that the business Romney featured in his ad took out government loans to start their business. Are any of you who took advantage of HARP or subsidized student loans or any myriad of government assistance lazy welfare queens? If those people on food stamps or Medicaid are good for nothings who took money out of your pocket, any of you who used HARP are the same thing to me.

Just understand this old saying: "You're a Republican until it happens to you." Everyone wants to be an independent, self-sufficient person, and anyone who isn't is just sucking off of your livelihood. Then, when "it happens to you," suddenly everyone wants Obama to fix their mortgage in the same breath they will say they can never vote for him because he is a "welfare president."

No man is an island. None of you are John Galt. None of you are independent of the government. Any of you who so much as claimed a mortgage interest tax deduction benefited from a government welfare program. Remember that the next time any of you are going to talk down about someone on welfare.

RE: What was the best line last night from Ryan's Speech?
Quote:Yes Obamacare cut Medicare reimbursements to the private sector (insurance companies and hospitals)

So you're admitting that reimbursement got cut... and it went to Obamacare? Congraluations, Max.. you were making progress.. until you had to try to spin it so that it's "yeah it happened, but it didnt' happen the way Ryan meant it!"

Quote: But Ryan misrepresents it in several ways. One, he included it in his own budget proposal that the House passed, so he's a hypocrite

His own budget proposal at the time was written with the assumption that Obamacare was in place (which it is, unfortunately?),. He did what he could do minimize the damage. How hard is that to understand? He can't just "break the law" and write a budget proposal just because he doesn't want to enforce Obamacare...

Quote:The "You didn't build that" line clearly referred to roads and bridges. It was in the instantly preceding sentence. So we know what "that" was referring to (ie, the infrastructure and public goods that make success possible). If you can't admit that get over yourself

Okay, pay attention... here's the quote, Max.. so we can have a down-and-dirty quick grammar lesson on sentence structure

Quote:Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.

See the sentence? "If you've got a business -- you didn't build that."

There are no other lines that change that complex sentence.

Subject: "You"
Verb: "Didn't"
Object: "That"
Dependent Clause: "If you've got a business".
Now we can break down the dependent clause even more if you want... but I'm assuming you can do that yourself, but it's very obvious that the dependent clauses relates to the Object "That".

Note there are no references to Infrastructure in that sentence whatsoever.... so where you get the corollation, I'd love to know.

If I wanted to .. I'd go after the entire quote Max, (such as do we need to put up the definition for "allowed"? or the last sentence.. "Who is someone else?")

I mean hell if you want to get that nitpicky, we can go at this all day, Max...

Don't tell Max that.. cause apparently he's forgotten the basics of any loan process..

Hell, I've used Sallie Mae and FHA, but you know what? I finally got SM paid off... (and am still working on the FHA loan part of my mortgage.. but that doesn't matter to Max, since I'm apparently "lazy" by Max's definition, since I pay my bills and don't sit on my ass not trying to work those loans off)

Are things like HARP and Student Loans not paid back with interest?

Don't tell Max that.. cause apparently he's forgotten the basics of any loan process..

Hell, I've used Sallie Mae and FHA, but you know what? I finally got SM paid off... (and am still working on the FHA loan part of my mortgage.. but that doesn't matter to Max, since I'm apparently "lazy" by Max's definition, since I pay my bills and don't sit on my ass not trying to work those loans off)

I just don't think of a loan as a hand out.
