ACC and Madison Square Garden
I haven't heard anything about the two discussing anything for the future...nor have I heard about an extension with the Big East. Does anyone know anything about this yet? Also I know this probably is not happening but if the ACC takes two more teams doesn't matter if it includes Notre Dame or not, can MSG cancel the contract with the Big east?

I doubt you will see the ACC tournament north of DC. It is the most attended conference tournament. They wouldn't want to move too far from their core. If it were to be in NYC, I think it'd be a one year deal.

Goodness, where would the nBE Tournament move to in that case? The Barclays Center? The Izod Center? The Prudential Center? TD Northbank Garden? Dunkin' Donuts Center? Philly (forgot what the current name is)?

Didn't the BE just sign a long term contract with MSG?

Verizon Center in DC would be a good place for a tournament. Right in the middle of things, lots of restaurants and bars around it. Only downside is the price of hotel rooms there.

The ACC could always have it in North Carolina where it is always at.

Why on God's green Earth would MSG switch from the Big East to the ACC?

The Big East is a better BB conference and it has eight schools that are close (St. Johns, Seton Hall, Rutgers, UConn, Providence, Temple, Villanova, Georgetown). Some of the schools are in the NYC metro area.

If it's not MSG, there's almost no point of holding it in New York (Brooklyn), The Meadowlands, Nassau County or Newark.

I think it's fair to say the ACC Tournament is generally associated with North Carolina, particularly Greensboro.

RE: ACC and Madison Square Garden
The ACC has not expressed any interest in MSG. A reporter asked Swofford once and he gave some non-committal answer like "Not out of the question." The truth is the AC tourney doesn't do well outside of NC. The GA Dome is not a good site. DC didn't draw many fans. Charlotte and Greensboro seem to be the best sites.

Besides when the ACC goes to 16 each pod will have a regional tourney with the winner going to the ACC tourney.

It is bid out. Greensboro has a large arena in the heart of the league. They can bid pretty high with those variables.

Agreed. Its still a top conference, top 3 certainly. But in many years the Big Ten and ACC will be better. The fact is we lost Pitt, Cuse and WVU and we're replacing them with Temple and Memphis. Yea those two make up for the Pitt and WVU losses in basketball more or less, but Cuse in basketball is an incredibly potent brand and its an incredibly good program.

Is that true? The last couple of years watching the ACC tournament the stands were empty where as the BE tourney was packed.

For me the BE tourney is the only thing I will miss leaving behind. It was head and shoulders above any other conference's.

avg per session ACC/BE
2012 19,520/20057 Atlanta/Phillips Arena (Capacity 18,371)
2011 23,381/19,375 Greensboro
2010 23,371/19,375 Greensboro
2009 26,352/19,375 Atlanta/GA Dome
2008 20,035/19,562 Charlotte
2007 22,269/19,594 Tampa

That takes you back a few years to get an idea of what attendance is in different spots. This year is the first year the Big East has been ahead. The ACC and BE have been the top 2 all these years.
