RE: So- About that MWCUSA "Alliance" SuperConference
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think CUSA did the best they could with what they had. I think ODU is a good basketball add, and has had success on the football field. Whether it translates to FBS, who knows, but I'd rather take my chances with a winning FCS team than a losing one. As far as basketball is concerned, as long as Floyd is at UTEP they will be competing. I'm glad you have ODU in one division and UTEP in the other, because I think that will make for a great division rivalry.

As far as looking down on CUSA, I've enjoyed our time in CUSA, and I wish the best for them. I won't talk smack about CUSA because as a Memphis fan I have to deal with all those Mississippi and Mississippi State fans who try to do the same thing to us. Nothing sounds tackier than having to listen to that SEC chant. JMO.

Come to think of it, that would be a better conference for those no market schools.

The Sun-Belt long ago passed Memphis football. You did a good job of holding Arkansas State under 50 last year though, too bad you only scored 3.

At least one thing's certain, our attendance will go up now that we're cleaning off the slime like ECU. Our two worst attended home games in history were ECU games.

How's that "virtual bowl" thing working out for you?

That's because your fans know that it's an automatic loss for you. I seem to recall the city of Memphis begging CUSA to include ECU in the Liberty Bowl mix when CUSA was a new league. The sponsor AXA demanded it too. ECU had won the Peach Bowl, were 9th in America and then won two LB Alliance titles. The next year ECU was left out for no reason but to duck them. So the Liberty Bowl bid was the best from CUSA or ECU which ever one was better. And guess who got the bid? ECU.
That bowl was dying at the time and ECU brought 30,000 to your bowl three out of four times. The only reason they didn't do it last time was 20 degree temps and a rock slide on I-40 preventing many from being able to drive over. I shook Eddie Money's hand ad mid field and stood next to John Daily on the sideline. Didn't see you there though.
You are an absolute idiot to call ECU slime when youre whole basketball team consists of prep mill players. Go ask Silky OSullivan if Memphis enjoys having ECU there. Our pennent is on their wall in Memphis. You want to go with me, TOGC? Bring it on. Folks can see right through that BS.
ECU brought more people to a Liberty Bowl than Memphis has EVER put in their own rented stadium for a regular season game.
That 40,000 you refer to is by using Ole Miss and Mistake to fill the stadium and about 25,000 max from Memphis in the BEST of
times. Come to Greenville in October and see what a real crowd looks like.
Louisville used to play this game with ECU too. Even they feel differently now because it's a fun experience that they enjoyed.
Basketball and football and go ask Rick Pitino if you don't believe me. I was in the press room reporting for Yahoo Sports and he had great
things to say about the atmosphere at ECU. If ECU is good enough for Louisville, who we respect, we're more than good enough for Memphis
and the rest of this bunch. Memphis has been to like 3 or 4 dinky bowls in their whole lives and you want to call ECU who has played in 13 different bowls slime? We'll see who is slime at the end of the day just like last time.

I wouldn't waste my time talking to that guy about attendance. He doesn't even have season tickets which means he's not allowed to even have an opinion on Memphis football.

Only thing that's certain is Memphis will be losing a lot of football games. New teams will be coming to Memphis, but the results will be the same, watching your team getting their teeth kicked in week in and week out. New year, new teams, same crappy results.

Idaho's football "stadium" is a quonset hut and Moscow (great name) has about 25K people and is nowhere near any other city except Spokane/Pullman, which home to Washington State. Las Cruces, NM has only about 50K people and although it's proximate to a fairly large city, that city is home to UTEP. Further, NMSU hasn't been to a bowl game since, are you sitting down?, 1960. Finally, last I looked Idaho and NMSU averaged less than 15K fans per game.

Montana would be a good add for the MWC even though Missoula is small. That's because several other small cities are within half a day's drive, weather permitting, so Montana actually can draw from cities totally about 200K people. As exemplified by the fact Montana regularly averages over 25K per game, that's enough to justify moving up to the FBS level. The problem is that Montana would have to add several additional sports and a consultant they hired a couple years ago opined they couldn't afford to do that on the paltry income the WAC had. Whether the MWC's additional revenue would be enough, I don't know.

Anyway, IMO now that the deal with CUSA isn't going to happen, what the MWC needs to do is figure out a way to make UTEP and Tulsa an offer they can't refuse. With Houston and SMU leaving, there's really no longer any reason for UTEP to favor CUSA over the MWC. And Tulsa is small but has a good football program. If the MWC couldn't manage to get both, it should at least strive to bring in UTEP and Montana.

I have the opposite opinion. Both are mediocre athletic programs. At least FIU is a completely overlooked team in a decent market. La Tech is an overlooked team in an awful market.

The best add CUSA made was ODU, and they don't even play FBS football.

Who were they going to seriously add? LSU? Please, in the situation they were in they made some great moves. ODU and UTSA will be great gets for them. They own the Texas mid-majors, they moved into VA, they got the WAC champ, and up an coming Florida team.

Pretty good all things considered.

They added three schools that have never played a single season at FBS. They added an awful La Tech team and an FIU team that has only two winning seasons in school history. If they didn't have USM and Tulsa, they'd be on par with the WAC right now.

Dude, LA Tech just won the WAC last year beating out the new top of the mwc once Boise leaves. How is that awful?

Guys, I apologize for TOGC. He has zero common sense when it comes to trashing threads with endless, mind numbing arguments.

I can't speak for the CUSA stragglers. We don't claim them anymore.
