It's unfortunate for you that you find yourself in sort of a no-man's land as far as non-AQ conferences go. You certainly aren't getting a call from the ACC or Big East and your geography isn't ideal for either one of the Sun Belt or MAC. I think you'd probably be a lock if there were a non-AQ conference with an eastern seaboard footprint.

Look, as I've now said a few million times, this is about Athletics! If you can set aside your hatred for a minute, you will find us to be a great perspective member who is prepared for success.
Look Liberty does not make sense in the Sun Belt, not geographically and not culturally and as much as you want to make it completely about athletics, that simply isn't the case. Is it primarily about athletics? Yes. But look, you're a private religiously affiliated institution, looking to join 11 public institutions. You're dramatically out of footprint and a cultural mismatch. Liberty would certainly accept an invite from the Sun Belt, but if you had options, your administration would prefer to be associated with more like minded programs, as a conference we're no different and we do have options. Options that are better fits geographically as well as culturally.
Having said all of that, Liberty isn't waaay down the list of schools and if we were to be raided again, a Liberty invite would not shock me, but you'd still be fighting against bad geography and cultural mismatch. I'll put it to you like this, without further defections from the Sun Belt I put Liberty at about a 5% chance of getting invited.
The only issue with that statement i have is that we are "dramatically" out of the footprint. Especially if you do add Appy. We are only 4 hours from Boone.

You're a bit more in footprint than NMSU, but they're pretty much the only candidate being discussed who is more out of footprint than you are. App would bridge the gap a bit, but you're still pretty far out there, even for other potential east division members and stretching east to west that far just causes problems, we're already spread far enough that a fair number of schools never really turn out at the conference basketball tournament and as an outlier I'd hate to be the west team that had to travel to Lynchburg for a CCG in football if you guys were to win the east division and have the best overall record.
I'm actually iffy on App State's geography unless we decided to stay out of Texas and shift eastward, obviously we went back into Texas with Texas State, so I'm not thrilled with the idea of eastward expansion anyhow, especially if it's into VA.
