BE fans... do newcomers have voting rights now?
I'm asking because if the BE school presidents voted to have Marinatto resign and the new schools that he was instrumental in bringing in were also voting, I don't see why it would pass?

I don't think any of the new schools' entrance was due to Marinatto, but rather an opportunity existed in spite of him. RC Johnson (AD at Memphis) said about a month ago that the new members have voting rights.

Probably on certain things but not everything. I'd imagine they have voting rights on say media rights and the commissioner. I doubt they have voting rights on new membership or day to day type matters.

I just heard on the Boise morning show that there is a rumor that SDSU and Boise were asked to back out of The Big East deal with out having to pay an exit fee. This will be one of the ten rumors I will hear today I am sure. I suppose it is worth pointing out.

If Boise and SDSU were asked to back out- things would be very interesting.

MWC would be up to 12 schools now. Would get the title game. Probably would see the MWC do more of what they did this year- selling games to ESPN(probably even moreso quite frankly).

Big East- I don't know what to say any more. They would be at 10 football for 2013, 18 basketball 2013. Navy football 2015.

I could see them staying at 10 quite frankly for football.

In the unsubstantiated rumor, who did the asking? Marinatto or the post Marinatto group?

It is what it is. We all knew The Big East was not an equal to The BIG 10, SEC, Big 12, and PAC-12. Those 4 are so far ahead of The Big East and ACC right now that making a small step back for one sport would not be a nail in the coffin. Plus Boise will get a decent pay every year from Nike and ESPN. Maybe NBC will add MWC and C-USA for a really good deal just so they can have a game on Saturday. Could get lucky I guess.

I think more likely will be like this year- getting 4-5 slots on ESPN- if not actually more. With the lack of western options- it would make a lot of sense for some 10:30 starts.

True. Good point.

Asked to back out by Marinatto before he was ousted, or asked by the Big East after Marinatto was ousted? Big difference there, obviously.

I did wonder why Boise didn't join the BE early for the 2012 season -- it's still a year with AQ bids, so from Boise's perspective, why not take advantage of it? And from the Big East's perspective, it would have been easier because they had to give a full membership to Temple to get Temple to play BE football in 2012.

True. Good point.

If the MWC schools will now have control of their own tier 3 rights with the demise of the MTN, a school with a popular football program, like BSU, might make very good money on tier 3.

In reading this document, the Boise St contract with the BE, it sounds like they do not have a vote until the effective date of their membership, July 1st, 2013. They do have the right to attend certain meeting and their viewpoint would be taken into consideration, but no vote. At least that's the way it reads to me. I would imagine that the other newcomers have similar wording in their contracts.

I would suspect the BE schools that were in before the last realignment. Certainly the non-football schools if this was true and probably even the football schools if the money did not make sense.

Well we do know the basketball schools have not been happy with the realignment moves. I am guessing between the basketball schools and meatball, they asked.

Expansion does not happen if at least several of the bball schools aren't with it. Notre Dame spearheaded the expansion, and notably the targets of it. Everybody likely just wanted a new face of the league to prepare for the real contract discussions in the 4th quarter of 2012.
