Not sure if it is legal to carry a gun. I would guess "no"(it might be soon if the NRA gets its way). But I see nothing in the SYG statute in Floriduh that gives an age requirement to SYG.

I would guess the kid might be given a weapons charge of some sort but probably not anything else in reguards to SYG.

Well, if one is eating dinner with their family at Applebees, that might be considered child abuse so if the person is a family member who brought you there, it might be justified.

Exactly right and those zero tolerance policies are a big part of the problem when used by administrators, because the victim and the bully get exactly the same punishment. These gun laws piss me o**. I just think they are ridiculus, but I will say this. I don't live down south. A dear dear friend of the family winters in Central Fl. He tells me it's a different world. Alot of people are packing and if it makes you feel safer. So be it.

Mach, do you have any idea how many law enforcement types are around you every day carrying guns and you just don't know it? Just because they've been trained doesn't mean they don't have a temper and a hair trigger. What makes you or I carrying a gun any more dangerous than a cop carrying one?

You don't ban guns so Mach can feel confident getting mouthy at the grocery store.

I had a jury trial that involved bullying today. I defended an 18 year old who had been expelled from school and was being prosecuted for battery for confronting a bully who had beaten a small friend of my defendant. The "victim" was on drugs at the time and told a crazy story so luckily, I won the trial today. But geez, I could not get an appropriate offer (an offer for a plea to a fight) because they had a very angry mother on their side pushing the case and were trying to sue the school system.

I blame parents.

No gun law is gonna protect you from getting shot. If a person is willing to shoot you for an unlawful reason, he's willing to break to the law to carry that weapon. If he's "certified" to carry, and he shoots you, he's just a highly informed/educated criminal who still decided to break the law. Any school shooting validates this point.

This. I coached or managed about 60 youth sports teams in my day. Occasionally it was necessary to approach a parent about attitude, language, or behavior problems. Never once did they acknowledge little Johnny could do anything wrong. For some kids the most discipline they ever received was on my field, court, or diamond.

Mach...I have numerous friend that carry concealed and openly. Not a one of them to my knowledge has every harmed anyone. In fact...they are responsible firearm owners that take carrying a weapon very seriously and with caution and care. It is the hoods out there that are not licensed and trained that use firearms as tool of crime that scare the hell out of me. I am perfectly comfortable with those that carry for self defense. That is the real difference IMO....violent use vs. non violent defense. The number of incidents nationwide involving a CCP holder using a weapon in a crime is almost non existent.
