I was just about to post a thread on the same thing. Hopefully not. Initial reports are that they are going to keep an interim staff this year and look for a new coach next year.
However, if Malzahn leaves, stAte should be able to get a great coach as they are in a very good position for next year.

I genuinely hope not. ASU is a very deserving fan base for some love.

I hope Gus stays put. After such a brilliant hire by ASU, it would be terrible to lose him before ever coaching a game. I'm rooting for you guys.

While nothing is impossible he is probably not their top choice, at least that is what peoplewho follow these things are saying, and he knows that.
He is however the ASUs top choice and the perfect fit for ASU, and he knows that. IMOthere is not any coach in college football that ASU fans would take above Malzahn.

After the hell they were put through by Old Man Winter and his trip to Oxford, this would be too much. On the football field I want to beat up Arkansas State...but I would never wish this on anyone.

It also sucks that Malzahn is a Hogs alum and they will more than triple what state broke the bank to pay him.

Most likely they'll do the interim thing. No time to change offense / defense - need time to pick best available option as coach.
But next year - I'm scared sh!tless!
It's not just the coach - our program has a LOT riding on Malzahn - we've got stadium naming rights, renovations, ect. that require money from places across Arkansas we haven't traditionally been able to tap into - the same places that enabled us to pay Malzahn so much. It would be a killer for our program's aspirations to make a move up to the next level - whatever that level may be.

IMO Malzahn, like Brady is there for the long haul and both will build programs that ASU fans will be proud of.
FYI, Malzahn has said the "next level" is being ranked in the top 25 on a regular basis. For some reason ASU fans all want to make up their own version of what the next level is. Guess they don't like Malzahns.

Look NOT A stAte FAN but still hanging around the Sun Belt Board dude - even if stAte fails to reach top 25 regularly - there are levels in between where we are now and and where Gus wants us to be that would represent significant improvement over where we've been. Winning 8 plus games and going to a bowl for several seasons in a row would be the immediate step.

Right there are all kinds of levels and anyone can pick a level that would make them happy, but that does not change the fact that Malzahns "next level" is for ASU to be ranked in the top 25 on a regular basis. He has no in between, and feels a lot better after his first recruiting class.
On TV tonight in Little Rock, when asked about the "next Boise" thing he said he and ASU had done their homework and is further along than Boise was when they started their climb out of obscurity. Those that don't like the next Boise thingcan make up their own "next whatever", just don't attribute it to Malzahn.

I hope you're right.
Either way, I don't see him packing his bags and leaving this year. Money has never been an issue with him. I honestly see him being at ASU for a few years.

I didn't attribute it to Malzahn - why would you imply that I did?
I was trying to make a statement about what I thought stAte's chances to move forward a level are, and intentionally tried to avoid Malzahn's(and the athletic director's and the president's) definition of next level.
And yet I have you doing your usual crap.
I thought you were not going to post anymore.

Wont happen.
You guys have no idea the absolute war that would happen if Gus was hired by them, there would be almost no chance for reconcilliation between the two schools. It would force Arkansas to admit that ASU is a competitor, and it would force ASU to treat Arkansas as a rival who should be kept down at all costs

Why would it start a war. Arkansas would simply take a coach form a perceived "lesser" institution. Arkansas would not have to admit that stAte is a competitor.

If you guys ever find out how to keep the big dog on the block down at all costs...let us Louisiana people know...would help us battle the Purple and Nacho Cheese demon.
