I was in Lawrence Friday for a meeting at our company's marketing offices. Got to see a mini-tour of the campus and some nice neighborhoods. Bill Self and Danny Manning have houses in the same neighborhood. It was pretty cool - they are very nice homes, as you might expect.
Most close-knit Kansas fans believe Manning is destined to one day coach the Jayhawks and that the Tulsa job is the first step in the head coaching grooming process. Self once coached there too. One thing I don't understand - all of the flags around campus say University of Kansas, yet they are referred to as "KU," not "UK." Can't think of another school that's like that.

Missouri, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Colorado, among others. A lot of the midwest schools do it for some reason.

All I know is that for the first time since 1973 I will not watch the NCAA championship basketball game. Cannot abide to see highlights of 2008 loss. Haven't seen even a clip and plan to avoid at all costs! Good luck to Kansas but I give them .000005 chance of winning.

Most of those schools were created by the Morrill Act and refered to as "The Kansas University" or "The Nebraska University" in their respective state governments before they were actually founded by the states. Some of them changed to the University of _______ but kept the _U.
BTW, I went to KU. [ducks] The Rock Chalk Chant in Allen Field House is really cool, but it doesnt compare to the singing of the alma mater before the games.

yep, i was really impressed by the singing of the alma mater in San Antonio in 2008
The IU and KU alma maters are the same tune. Never realized that till now.
Both stolen from the Cornell alma mater. KU was founded by professors from Harvard and Yale. They couldnt agree on which alma mater to use so they went with a third party....Cornell.
Judging by your colors, I assume Cornell grads were a big deal at IU when you were founded.

You learn something new every day.
Exactly. That's really interesting as well. I guess most of all colleges started from another college which started from the very first college.
