RE: UC-Texas Game Thread
I don't think coaching, really had much of anything, to do with the outcome today.
They couldn't buy a basket, most of the first half, they went unconscious from 3 for a time in the second, then went cold again. Yancy Gates made big plays, Cash made big plays and Parker positioned himself for key rebounds.
We were consistent, but they spiked in offensive potency and we survived it.

You couldn't expect them to keep shooting like they did in the first.
Now, there were some stupid plays late. Early 3's, letting their big get behind everyone, for an uncontested dunk and an out of control drive by SK that got blocked, but there is no game where we don't have those.
Really, I put it on the players. Barnes made an adjustment, but the biggest difference for them, was their outside shots falling. Coaches had nothing to do with them going 6-7 for 3, during their initial spark in the second half.

I give Gates credit, that pivot hesitation, shook Chapman out of his shoes and although his FT's were worse than usual, his ability to also hit outside, was big.
He'll be on a roster next year. Make these guys watch film and shoot ft's tommorrow. That's all you can really do.

He's always been a lot like Dixon IMO. When he's on he's good, but they are both so up and down and inconsistent. As I said before Cash and Gates are easily the best players on this roster. Far more consistent than any of the other guys. There is a reason they are the only two big-time recruits Mick has on this roster.

No doubt, you know what to expect from those two. Dixon, SK, and Parker... just depends what day it is. I hated having to pull Cash for long stretches but he got himself in foul trouble.

Parker is consistent on the glass and with toughness...I hope he really works on this game this summer, he can become a 15 ppg score and so can Wright.

Agree on the glass and toughness. He always brings that. He has a heck of a long way to go offensively though. He always gets good shots and gets himself into position to get good shots but he just doesnt have the offensive game or touch to put up the points he very well could be putting up. He should spend all summer working on his offensive game.

RE: UC-Texas Game Thread
I am just happy things are getting back to the way things used to be. We expect the Bearcats to make the NCAA tournament and win games in March.

I went and read some threads on this board from Mick's first season. Man did it get ugly on the court on this forum.

Held on and advanced. 04-rock

If they want any shot at advancing deep into the NCAA Tournament, they're going to have to shoot the ball from the FT line at a much higher percentage.

For this board's standards, it's like a C+ at best.

No doubt. You take it any way you can in this tournament.

Cash has to stay on the floor more. They need 35 minutes out of him from here on out if they can get it. The offense is eons better when he's on the floor. Dixon just doesnt run the offense remotely close to what Cash does.

i know and it puzzles me how Dixon can be so good thru his 4 year career but yet, in some big games he misses free throws and misses shots from the field. I want him to have a great NCAA tourney to finish his career up with.

I'd like nothing more than to see him go out with a strong NCAA Tournament. But yeah he's so up and down it is unbelievable and today was not a good start. Maybe it will be a big wakeup call for Sunday's game. That said I thought they would have played a lot better offensively after that Louisville debacle last Saturday.

i know. Offense apparently isn't this team's strong point nowadays. I just hope the Florida State that beat both UNC and Duke this year doesn't show up the next game.

I have no idea. I was following the Texas game thread which was far more entertaining. It is way better to follow a meltdown when it is another team's fans. Reading their thread in the first half brought a huge smile to my face.

Absolutely not! I wasn't panicking either, though.

The team just needs to start leaving the switch "ON" for 40 minutes.

RE: UC-Texas Game Thread
They looked really good offensively for stretches. I thought Sanders gave them some quality minutes but the lack of PT down the stretch of the season took it's toll on him. He and Parker look like a nice basketball IQ combo next season.

Agreed with the coaching thing - that zone has been useful for UC in stretches but most of those 3 pointers UT hit in the 2nd half were uncontested. My one fear was that UC would get caught up chasing and collapsing on J'Covan and their wing shooters would get hot.

I wouldn't make too much out of the Texas run though. Look through their game recaps and they've been blowing big leads and staging big comebacks all season long - the mark of a young team...a combination of talent, fearlessness, and inexperience/low basketball IQ that can be simultaneously thrilling and maddening. See: Jackson, Justin.
