No MSG for ACC Tourney
The Big East board is reporting that the BE and MSG are close to finalizing a 10-year extension for the tournament through 2026. That obviously derails plans for the ACC to cycle NYC into the rotation.
Will there still be ACC tournaments up north? And if so, where? Brooklyn? Newark? Philly? DC?

Prudential Center wouldn't be bad. I also wouldn't mind the Barclays Center.

I have a feeling that the ACC tourney won't be north of D.C. until MSG has an opening. I don't see the ACC brass being willing to take second billing to the BE tourney in New York.

Too bad because MSG is right in Manhattan and would be great for getting free advertising from the media. I suppose the Prudential Center (Newark, NJ) or Brooklyn are decent alternatives.
Not sure how safe it would be in Newark though.

Big East has to either fold or become irrelevant for ACC to move into MSG.

Or pick up UConn. MSG said they'd go with whatever split had Syracuse and Uconn in it if the BE had split 10 years ago because those 2 schools brought all the fans. I'd think if the ACC had both that playing the ACC tourney in MSG would be a no brainer for both MSG and the ACC. [I'm assuming UConn only comes aboard if ND is #15]

The Big East would have to not exist at this point, and I think any shot at that happening died with all the expansion, the increased exit penalties, the West Virginia settlement, new Big East advertisers, and the new extended contract.

I wouldn't count on Brooklyn, the Atlantic 10 is locked into there for a while.
There's a pretty good DOME that's available in March.

The ACC tournament will never go back on campus.
I agree that the tourney won't go too far from the geographical center. It didn't do that well in Tampa or DC. MSG/NYC has its own special draw but that would require another major shakeup in conference membership.

Downtown Newark/Ironbound around the Prudential Center, Gateway complex, Penn Station and the Portuguese/Brazillian/Spanish restaurants is a very safe area especially when an event like a concert, basketball game or hockey game are going on at the Rock.
That being said no way does the ACC opt to at least metaphorically speaking take 2nd billing to the Big East tourney. I could see trying DC again as its still close enough for the VA/NC schools to travel plus Maryland, Pitt and Cuse are all close. Cuse travels very well to DC for Georgetown now.

I'm taking the "wait and see" attitude on the MSG extension. After the championship game lacked some enthusiasm, they may slow the talks down. In the long term, the BET will be fine, but until Cincy, Louisville, Memphis, Houston, etc. start traveling to NYC regularly To add to the traditional crowds, MSG is not going to be thrilled hosting a tourney that cannot sell out. Especially when the know Syracuse, Duke, Pit and UNC will fill the arena. Just a thought.

How about we keep it in Greensboro. The weather's much nicer there this time of year.

RE: No MSG for ACC Tourney
If they go 16 I hope they scrap the byes and just make it a mini-NCAA with 2 mini 8 team tournaments at 2 sites, like one is in Greensboro and the other plays in Charlotte and the final can be rotated between the two on a yearly basis, or for something more radical a 6 day tourney with half in NYC and the other half in Atlanta with a final in Greensboro/Charlotte with a day off for travel.

This is also what I proposed when it was first announced that the ACC was expanding with SU and Pitt, although I thought just alternate the champ game between the two sites (Greensboro and NYC) rather than work in another site.
Not sure how the logistics of it all would work out though with fanbases having to make travel plans. Could be a nightmare.
If something like this isn't feasible, the ACC tournament will never be in NYC.
Cheers,
Neil

You are still thinking like a Big East fan. That's OK, we will give you time to adjust.

Daytona or Orlando is down right perfect... I'm telling you, Spring Break and Bike Week and Basketball... What better is it to watch a game and then throw some beads.
But on a serious note, I prefer Charlotte.
