My vote is for JD III. I like that kid's game. He seems like an all around baller.

RE: New column: So Who Is Next Year's JaQuon Parker?
JDIII has surprised me. I didn't see anything special in the Deveroe's league. But I liked what I saw in games.

I really feel that Parker will more than fill Dixon's shoes, and JDIII will be the first guy off the bench filling Parker's role.

I'd like to see Guyn spell Cashmere more next year.

Gonna be hard to get minutes next year for some guys. Obviously the starting lineup is already determined:

PG Wright / Guyn
SG Parker / JDIII
SF Kilpatrick / Sanders
SF Thomas/Jackson
PF Jackson/Mbodj/Take your pick

Well, maybe more playing time than I thought. Might be a 10 man rotation next season.

Looking at that lineup, we need a PG in a bad way in the class of 2013.

"The Bearcats outscored the Wildcats by 21 points while Wright was on the floor. A performance that's even more impressive when you consider that the junior guard's knee has been acting up."

Well... just what I've been fearing all year.

There is just no doubt about it.

We are looking great for combo guards. And I have a lot of love for our combo guys. Versatility is a damn good thing. But I think history has been pretty clear that you also need a kid or two that has experience playing the PG position exclusively for several years.

There are probably less than 10 good pure point guards in the country. The college game is all about combo guards nowadays...the guys playing the point are just short 2 guards.

Shaq will take Dixon's role next year, I'd think. Great creating off the dribble for others, moreso than Parker. Still needs to improve his jumper so he would be better utilized with the ball.

They are actually in good position to go with a 4-guard lineup or the traditional 3-guard lineup with 2 low post men. Just need to find that true big man down low, other than JJ.

I agree, they will be in much better position to run the 4 guard next year. You can play SK, Cash, Parker and Thomas all together around Jackson or Mbodji. The concern will be the front line.

RE: New column: So Who Is Next Year's JaQuon Parker?
I think Jeremiah Davis will take the role Dixon had. They're both similar, taller guards, athletic and are just good enough to make you respect the outside shot. Davis is of course, a little more polished than Dixon was at first. imo
Thomas will likely take the role we haven't had this year, as the athletic wing who can really cut to the basket. If he has a good jump shot, he'll be even better. I see Guyn as taking a step forward, toward being the PG. Sanders, I think will be a good wing and a sound ball player. He did better against lesser competition, but he's only a frosh and I think his potential is actually pretty high.
We haven't relied on the new kids much, but they've been decent when we needed them to spell people.
Jeremiah Davis imo, has done pretty well, Guyn is one of the best on ball defenders we have and can hit from the outside and Sanders provides a bit of grit and muscle at times. I've seen him make some tough plays on d.

As for whether one will have a JP type impact, not sure.
I've been very impressed by what he's done at times. The Marquette game in particular.

When it comes to the point, some guys are natural, but clearly, you can mold a 2 into a 1.
Cash is a pretty damn good point guard IMO, he wasn't a pure point, he was a scorer.

FWIW, Terry Nelson on SOAS said that Shaq is a very good shooter. Kind of surprised me, thought he was more of a slasher than a shooter.

If he's got both, really worked on the outside shot, as I told another board, he'll be an impact player and maybe even a lotto pick before he leaves.
He's a crazy athlete as it is.

RE: New column: So Who Is Next Year's JaQuon Parker?
JDIII and Thomas would be my bets. Davis just has a good nose for the game, doesn't force the typical freshman mistakes like Guyn does. Guyn plays hard and with a lot of guts though--kid isn't afraid to shoot it.

Really I hope Jaquon can take another step up and be a go to guy consistently. We're gonna have a lot of nice options on the wing next year. Post game and a backup/replacement for Cash are the concerns right now.

I think Davis is going to have big year next year. I am stunned how well he shot the ball this year. 38 per cent from three is pretty damn good for a freshman

We need Ellis to be next year's Parker. And, oh yeah, we need Parker to keep being Parker. He is my favorite player right now. And we need Killa to consistently play and shoot well. All of which can happen.

UC will desperately need for Mbodj and Ellis to be much improved by next year. It's going to take a lot of repitition and practice for them this summer. Jackson has to improve in common sense on the court. Not taking quite so many chances and definitely needing to improve his shooting , both FG and FT. We'll be fine then.
oh, i DONT know what to make of Gaines yet. Hopefully things improve for him too. That would help with depth to go along with whatever HS or JC players we get inside.

I think it's asking alot of Ellis to be the man. He has yet to really see any serious game time.

I think it's good that JDIII and Guyn have seen time this year. It will really help them next year.

I've seen JJ improve alot this season. He could really be the surprise next season if he continues to work at his game this offseason.

I see several guys poised for possible big seasons - SK, Parker and JJ, next year.

I actually think they have so many more options next year that they have the potential to be better if that big man emerges.

alright. let's be realistic. assume ellis puts on 20 lbs and grows three inches, which he's capable of, it he has the right mindset and the proper coaching. he still needs to play into his body.

maybe some of you don't remember lush gush about jdIII, but i was so stoked when we started to recruit him. didn't think we'd have chance in the phogg of allen to land him, but we did. now, i don't no a lot about hs hoops or follow it all that much, but i got a gut and i stroke it from time to time, and i had a feeling all the while about jdIII. he heard it hear first.

we do need a pg. i've seen a little of guyn. and i trust mick and co. but i would really feel comfortable with a point to backup cash next year. instead of a frosh in contention with the top spot come '13.
