Scheduling Update ( OSU, UC, XAV, etc...)
There was an email that was sent out a few weeks ago to NKU community, figured I'd post a part of it here. Looks exciting. Wonder which of these teams we'll get to play year one(and which ones will actually come to the BOKC). Nice to see they've already been scheduling A-Sun games as well.

" Each of our 17 intercollegiate programs have been fully integrated into Atlantic Sun schedules." ... "While no schedules are official at this point, we can share that our teams have been negotiating with institutions like Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio State, Indiana, Eastern and Western Kentucky, Morehead, Harvard, Butler and Northwestern for meetings this upcoming year."
- Athletic Director Scott Eaton

Off topic, but if you guys live up there I hope all is well. It looks rough in that neck of the woods today.

Yeah it got pretty rough, for sure.. Some tornados right outside of Cincy metro area but I think most around here were okay. Some debris flying around and flooded areas but not a lot of damage.

Louisville/So. Indiana got hit really hard though, I know that much.

Good deal. You're coming into this conference at a really interesting point in time. With Belmont gone, ETSU really down and going through turmoil that they haven't seen in years, this conference is WIDE OPEN.
Upstate comes back next year with a ton of talent, Gulf Coast will be LOADED too. They lose two seniors, with redshirt junior Eddie Murray coming back along with that foreign kid who's a freshman. He may have legit NBA talent if he can develop a consistent shot. Mercer should be still be solid, North Florida with Parker Smith should be on, etc...

Who has legit NBA talent? The freshman kid from overseas? I'd disagree. He is a nice player but he couldn't guard an NBA caliber wing player if his life depended on it. He will play in Europe with the likes of Slater and Hodzic and others. Pigram and Tiggs both had more NBA talent than he does. Just my two cents. Nice player though.

Just saw this on Twitter....

Cliff Peale ‏@cliffpeale

NKU men's basketball will play at Ohio State next season. Won't reveal date but NKU says contract is signed.

Go Norse!

Anybody have any new information on the 2012-2013 schedule? Or any idea of what teams we will be playing?

The official schedule hasn't been released yet, but outside of the normal A-Sun conference schedule it seems we'll be playing at Ohio State, via multiple sources. Also the team is playing in a tournament hosted by University of San Diego - was found and posted on the ETSU board a few days ago:

Nov. 14, 2012
NKU vs. University of San Diego

November 15, 2012
NKU vs. Tulsa

November 17, 2012
NKU vs. Siena

November 18, 2012
NKU vs. Cal State-Northridge

Should be interesting to see how the rest of the schedule plays out.. Want to see some home games! lol

Wow the schedule is really starting to look interesting. Yeah I will be curious to see what kind of home games we will get outside of the conference games.

I could be completely wrong on this, but I don't think you will see alot of HIGH profile non-conference home games for a while. The reason is pretty clear for me. Currently, NKU counts as a DII game on all DI schedules. No one is taking one of its DII freebies and traveling.

You might however get some on the backend in the next two or three years. Still depends on how the program is viewed, but my guess is you will probably have to wait until you are DI post-season eligible.

Yeah what ive read is that this year we would count as a division II game against Division I opponents and Division I against Division II opponents. But that in the second year we would be considered a Division I school against all teams but would not be post season eligible until the full transition is completed.

Good opponent but rough being transitional and can't get a home game. This is just the first step toward D1 so congrats and I look forward to seeing Mercer play NKU.

Well, They passed out free planners outside the SU with these dates in them. I highlighted all the MBB games but not sure how valid considering the first part was just announced and there's a scheduling conflict.

We'll see. I'll keep track and repost here when its officially released.

Could be, I've seen conflicting reports. But from what I've noticed, transition schools do count as a D1 game on the schedule.

For example, last season, the University of Nebraska-Omaha was in its first year of a 4yr transition to D1 in the Summit League. After a game versus Michigan State, their record suffered and Michigan State's went up by a win. Link

Also, you are correct in that NKU will be ineligible for post-season play. However, they still are eligible for invitational tournaments such as the NIT. Link

OK we can definitely rule out Wright State from the schedule. They released their official schedule and we are not on there.

I think all the D2 teams you play count in the win/loss column (unless marked exhibition), however, they do not factor into the RPI.

I heard somewhere that if you have 23 D1 games on the schedule, you count on the RPI.. Can't remember where though.

Also, I've heard a faint rumor that Texas Tech is on the official schedule as well. Another big conference team. Although they aren't necessarily a powerhouse, it's still nice to see the Norse potentially playing a Big 12 team than Glenville State/Drury/D2 schools...
