Also, given our relative success as a solid BCS program, I don't see how UC couldn't at least leverage a 2:1 in this situation. UT has got to be over the moon with this deal.
Yes, this is a good get for Toledo, but I am not sure about over the moon. Toledo has home and homes with Missouri, Miami (FL), Iowa St, Navy, and now UC. As I stated in another post on this topic, UT really needed a marquee home game this year and UC needed OOC games in general, which I am sure gave UT a negotiating advantage.
Looking forward to a good matchup. Hopefully a lot of Bearcat fans will make the 3 hour trek up I-75 to the Glass Bowl. A stadium very similar to Nippert on a slightly smaller scale.
Also looking forward to UT's return trip to Cincinnati in 2014. It will be the first UT game I won't have to travel to in over 10 years, since I moved to the 'Nati.
Go Rockets!!!
That's for the insight on Toledo's situation. What can you say about the team coming back and what the offense/defense will look like with a new staff?
Matt Campbell is UT's new Head Coach. Youngest HC in D-I, 32 years old, was the HC in the Military Bowl. Has been UT's OC the last couple of years.
On offense:
Toledo graduates 3 O-Linemen, both Tackles were 4 year starters, Guard a 2 year starter. UT also graduates 2 of their top 3 RB's.
Toledo returns both QB's (It has been a 2 QB rotation) Dantin will be a senior, better runner than a passer, good possession passing game QB, but not a strong arm. Owens will be a junior, cannon for an arm, but does not have a lot of touch on short/underneath stuff.
UT returns All-Everything WR Eric Page (as long as he doesn't declare for the NFL). Need another WR to step up, Bernard Reddy had a huge Military Bowl, 3TDs and 100 yards + receiving.
On Defense:
UT Graduates a starting DT and DE. These were positions of depth, so UT does return a fair number of guys up front, including DE TJ Fatinikun, 3rd team all-mac eventhough he missed almost the entire conference season due to injury.
Both starting LBs Molls & Bell are returning, both will be seniors.
UT Graduates 2 starting corners. Played a number of players at CB, but the guys returning are short in stature.
UT returns a number of players at the safety position.
Scouting Report:
UT was an offensive team in 2011. The Defense started the season well, but due to injuries and scheme, gave up tons of points as the season moved on.
For 2012, I would still expect UT to be a solid offensive team. There are some young guys who have seen some PT ready to step up on th eO-Line, but it will be hard to replace the 2 Sr Tackles. Sophomore Center was 2nd team all-mac. R/S Freshman Guard, was a Freshman All-American in one publication.
Need some one other than JR to be David Fluellen to step up at RB. I don't think Toledo will be as explosive at this position.
Passing game should be in good shape as long as the O-Line can protect the QB.
Defense, who know. LB & S will be strengths. Defensive front should be okay, corners really scare me. UT needs a new defensive scheme, UT DC Ward going to Illinois with Beckman, I am hoping for big changes on the defensive side of the ball.
Sorry for the dissertation, but you did ask
