Elfrid Payton decided the game. All by himself.

He was the only one who touched the ball, drove through three WKU matador defenders and layed it in.

Refs had nothing to do with that.

That being said, what an inexcusable error for the officials to make.

Its hard for 5 players to defend 6. If Price didn't have to step back and guard the 6th man on the floor then Payton wouldn't have had an open lane and we would have gone to a 2nd OT.

Most times when teams travel to Diddle they're playing with five against eight.

You should be embarrassed to even post this. SBC refs conducted a major FU on stage, and they will pay dearly for it. Take your gripe there. This type of crap happens ALL the time and is a part of sports.

I'll be embarrassed for you guys and for the conference, since you obviously aren't.

It's part of peewee football games, where you don't keep score, pat the kids on the head and tell them they played hard so they are all winners.

Does saying, "it happens all the time, it's part of sports" help you believe that your team deserved the win more than WKU?

"Come to the SunBelt conference where the coaches, refs, and fans don't care about rules, even the easy ones. And don't forget your dreamcicle before you head home."

Look the better team won last night, congratulations etc, HOWEVER.

To say that 6 men had no effect is absurd.

If nothing else the spacing is affected.

You can see in the video posted earlier that the 6 Louisiana players were spaced out evenly and the 5 WKU players were reacting to that (whether they knew they were defending 6 or not). The whole last twenty seconds is a give and take... offensive players making moves, defensive players reacting to those moves. When the layup is made, the offensive players are in a different position then they would have been with 5 and the defensive players are in a different position than if they had been guarding 5.

And even if you don't agree with that your team made a mistake. By rule the penalty for that mistake is two free throws and the ball.

Do you think that two free throws and the ball would have made a difference in the game? Because by RULE that is what WKU was entitled to.

What happens? Games a draw? Ull forfeits? This one is a hard one to make right.

I assume that the game just will not count.

Speaking as a basketball official, this one is solely on the crew. Preventive officiating calls for them to count the players before putting the ball in play and that obviously didn't happen here and it is not a reviewable situation!

RE: Ragin Cajuns are Idiots
This is a shi*tty way for a college basketball game to end. I imagine that the information was communicated to one of the players at the beginning of the timeout that he was being subbed out and he either did not hear or forgot by the end of the timeout.

This is why so many coaches have the 5 players who are about to enter the game sit on the bench.

The result should have been a technical foul without a doubt and the Toppers should have been shooting. However, in my experience in basketball, even at the college and professional level, when the refs count the players following a timeout they will generally hold a hand up and tell the team to get a player off the floor before the play starts. The refs, like the fans, don't want to see a game end on a technical like that. Therefore, the refs failed in that regard as well.

As far as the game play. A guy dribbled the ball from one side of the court to the other than drove to the rim and made a layup. I'm not saying six players didn't have an effect, but even if the Cajuns were playing with 15. The first responsibility of the defense in that situation is to make the ball handler give up the basketball. The Toppers did not do that. With that being said wins or rare for the Cajuns to come by in Diddle, and I'm glad we got won, but I am truly sorry for Topper and Belt fans that it happened this way.

Bottom line, hopefully this makes the Belt analyze the atrocity that is Sunbelt officiating. And, we are supposed to have our good crews on Thurs. nights. This does add another chapter to the Cajuns - Toppers rivalry. Thankfully, it wasn't water bottle night.

Do you think that two free throws and the ball would have made a difference in the game? Because by RULE that is what WKU was entitled to.

Last time I checked they don't coach defending 6 guys with only 5 so there goes that idea.

UL made a mistake...but just like in football if you are given an extra down, or 12 men on the field isn't reviewed in time it ceases to be our mistake and becomes squarely on the officials. They should have caught it so pretty please with a cherry on top...direct your anger towards them not us...had the shoe been on the other foot...you would react the exact same way UL fans are right now.

Your last point is interesting...because free throws are not automatic...let's say they call it right...he misses both free throws...WKU in bounds the ball and turns it over...UL scores to win the game anyway. Sure it would be a different outcome...but it might not be one you like. Calling the technical foul, or just having the refs acknowledge before the play...hey guys you have 6, take one off...would have made the outcome different. But the game is over...they couldn't review it...such is life.

Meanwhile...UL has 12 straight conference victories...just got a hard fought albeit strange road victory. I would hate to be in your shoes...because this loss would be hard to swallow. I empathize, I really do. But, with the human element ever present in the game of Basketball...human error will be prevalent. If this is any consolation, it was a really really good Basketball game until the refs screwed the pooch.

It's not a correctable error per NCAA rules.

That the SBC has "good crews on Thursday nights" vs. bad or less than good crews on other nights is pathetic. Why don't they have good crews at all games? The SBC is a joke in so many ways, this being one of the more evident.

Not applicable here. Teams are not allowed to sit during :30 timeouts, only during full time outs.

RE: Ragin Cajuns are Idiots
The people that think the non-call of 6 men on the court didn't have an impact on the outcome of the game are delusional. It had an impact because WKU SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHOOTING FREE THROWS ON THE OTHER END OF THE COURT. Whatever Lafayettes unbelieveable freshman point guard did is irrelevant because as soon as the ball was inbounded it should have been a technical foul. I think it worked out the best for both parties though. ULL got the win and WKU got rid of McDonald.
