I would only hope we are in on his recruitment now. Had some good offers out of high school http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiti...all-107311

I know he would have to sit out a year but since we play each other (NIU/Iowa) in 2012 and 2013 could Kirk say no to him transferring here?

Bell was allowed to go to NIU with the caveat that he didn't play/dress for the ISU game.

He'd probably like to go to IL, hopefully that won't be allowed because it's the same conference.

It's "allowed" (Beutjer transferred from Iowa to Illinois in the early 2000's) but in the Big Ten the kid has to walk-on at the school he transfers to if he's coming from another Big Ten school. He can't be on scholarship. It's pretty rare that a kid transfers within the Big Ten because of that.

Would he come here if Georgio Bowers does join the team in the spring?
Then there is also Church & maybe Musso.

...oh that would be a nice problem for us to have!

I'm still a believer of Akeem Daniels.

It would be nice to get back to the Tailback U tradition.

Do you think Michael Turner would have the NFL career he has had if he carried the ball 25x a game for 4 years against SEC/Big 10 defenses?

Running back is the perfect position for "mid-majors" less wear and tear on the body and a great chance to develop the ability to read zone blocking schemes.

:fingerscrossed:

NIU wasn't in the mix for Dieter anyway. He liked SMU and Kansas, once Weis offered him.

Where is the Giorgio Bowers commet from? Did I miss some new information about him returining to NIU. I remember to commit and de-commit drama with him ultimately signing with Akron.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...wers-85648

Then the Akron blog about him leaving Akron.
http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?showtopic=19832

Then our board talking about him leaving.
http://ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=456285

But I don't remember where he ended up. Is there some sort of source or just speculation that he will try to return to NIU. He was recruited under Kill'a staff.

Hmmmm. The last time SMU recruited out of area was the early eighties. What is it about that era that always sticks in my mind regarding the Mustangs?

I'm sure it'll come to me.

Based off of info from here (not 100% reliable but I believe it)
He is enrolled at NIU since last spring.
He has been working out like crazy at the REC on his own.

I saw him at summer practice in the West stands watching the open practice very intently (he was alone).

Wow. Good stuff HuskieJohn. I also just checked the niu student directory and he is enrolled as a student.

Mikial McCall looked great in the preseason before getting hurt. Ferentz gave him high remarks on a few big ten shows (preseason) for his explosiveness I believe. Coming here would be a great situation for him as well. Let's hope.

My gut feeling is that he isn't even considering us. If he is we need to make sure that the reason of his suspension is internally clarified and fully resolved before he is offered to join NIU.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
From one of the bowl practice reports...

Quote:Visitors

Northern Illinois welcomed a number of local football players to Thursday's practice, including several who are receiving recruiting attention from the Huskies.

Murphy's K.J. Maye and Greg Jones visited with assistant coach Rick Cauley. Maye, a quarterback, is expected to move to receiver or defensive back in college, while Jones is a playmaking outside linebacker. Both are uncommitted.

Vigor coach Kerry Stevenson brought three players to NIU's practice -- defensive backs Titus Whitsett, Marlon Moore and Jacoby Glenn. Glenn is committed to Kentucky; Moore and Whitsett are uncommitted.

Maye is listing Minny as "High Interest" according to Rivals. Looks like he made a visit there and goes to LA Tech today (1/6/12).
