Pehaps when we are in Mobile our coaches will take a drive over to Florida.
What's the NCAA policy with regard to a bowl game after the blackout period? Can we just invite them to the game, or can the athletic dept hook up the family with tickets like with a regular home game?
A school cannot buy bowl game tickets for a recruit or his family, nor pay his way in full or partial to a bowl game. Further, since we are in a quiet period until January, college coaches cannot initiate contact with potential recruits right now. They can talk to the recruit if he calls the coaches himself though.
The GoDaddy.com bowl is after the quiet period is over though, so it would be possible for coaches to make an in-person visit with the recruit while they are down south for the bowl game. The recruit can also pay his own way and pay for his own ticket to the bowl game and go watch it if he wants.

If the Mobile bowl has a requirement that the school needs to "sell" (buy) a certain # of tickets, then it's likely that NIU doesn't meet that number and has to buy the balance. I know that for previous bowls, NIU has bought an allotment of tickets and distributed to local high schools, youth groups, etc. A recruit can just keep his ear to the ground and figure out where these complimentary tickets will be and secure some for friends and family.
I guess NIU can do this even if there isn't a ticket requirement. As those sales would count towards NIU's ticket sale numbers.

We do not have a ticket requirement for this bowl this year. I think this is one of the few bowls that has enough support from the locals that they do not make it a requirement. I was told that all ticket sales out of NIU go directly to NIU athletics.

The three MAC tie-in bowls were restructured so that the teams no longer had to buy a ton of tickets and eat the costs. So NIU, Ohio, and WMU all have the same deal. Whatever tickets we sell we keep the profit.
Today was 1st day of signing of JUCO's did anyone hear anything? Historically we announce in Feb and are surprised to learn some are already on campus.
Quote:West De Pere quarterback Jay Tollefson had one of the most decorated seasons any area football player has put together in the recent past, leading the Phantoms to a second straight WIAA Division 3 state title.
Quote:Tollefson threw for 1,679 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 1,534 yards and 28 TDs. He also averaged more than 37 yards per punt and 36 yards on kickoff returns.
Quote:The 6-foot, 180-pound Tollefson still is deciding where he wants to play next season.
There has been strong interest from NCAA Division II schools, while Division I Northern Illinois showed interest before the state title. Tollefson said any rumors New Mexico came to the area to visit him are just that.

I don't know if Garland was grades or not, although why else would he turn down NIU for a JUCO in Kansas. Thought I read somewhere that a player who goes JUCO because he's a non-qualifier has to graduate before he moves on. Is that correct?

Sometimes they'll do a prep school or JUCO if they didn't get the offers they wanted.
Belvidere North (IL) running back Austin Smaha is hearing from both NIU and Minnesota. He says both are waiting to hear back on his grades and he has visited Minnesota three times. He says he would take a scholarship from Minnesota over us, if offered. If we offered and they only allowed him to walk-on then he might pick us.

I like this Musso guy, he is more of a one cut and go guy. I feel our offense needs more of that type runner now. Smaha appears to me to be more of SS/LB type.
I don't think Leo Musso has an offer from us. In the rivals article from last month he only says he has offers from 1-AA and Division II schools and Wisconsin might possibly offer him as a walk-on.
