If people from other schools treated us with some measure of respect here, they would be treated with respect in return. Most of us are very easy to please.. Call us 'Louisiana' or 'UL' or 'Cajuns' or Ragin' Cajuns' and you can bet that no matter what else you say, you will be treated with respect.

Start with the 'UL-Lafayette' or 'ULL' bs, and you won't be respected because you are showing none. If you gotta do that, put it on the smack board.

There is a history there; not on this board. The ULM guy knows full well how far it is from Lafayette to New Orleans. He was being snarky, fishing for a rise. Unfortunately, flash took the bait.

All i read was him making an apparent mistake in driving time and he didnt say anything nasty in doing so.

I dont care what happens on other boards, this is the Sun Belt board. Dont bring crap from outside of here and use it as justification for attacks committed here. Your subjecting fans from other schools to mess they dont want to see. When all we see is a UL fan insulting someone and we dont see the other side that the attacker uses as his reason over and over, it makes Cajun fans look bad.

Actually the guy who posted that was a guy who went to ULM (then NLU) in the 70s, hence the name SOT1977 (Sound of Today 1977). He also lives in Australia. People shouldn't assume that something is snark automatically. Like my post said, I have sat back and watch very innocent comments get hammered because someone was looking for an insult (real or perceived) as opposed to really looking at what was said and in what context. One guy asked how far Lafayette was from New Orleans and he responded rather matter of factly. He made a mistake. He shouldn't be insulted for that.

Unless you are looking for a reason to be upset with a comment from someone then I just don't see it. My point is unless you are looking for a reason to fire back, whether it is a real or perceived slight, no one would be taking that as a swipe at anything. That was his first post in the thread so there was nothing to be "read" into his comment.

Here is a personal example. Zeebart and I have shared a few zingers back and forth. We have had traded some PM traffic. I know when his comments are snark or he is trying to draw blood. I can also separate his good/thoughtful comments. Take each post at face value and go from there. If you or I or anyone on here is looking for an insult then we are sure to find it. If we don't go in looking for an insult we see things a heck of a lot more clearer.

John, I didn't react to his statement. flash did. flash was wrong to respond in the way he did. You and I have no disagreement there. SOT has shot his share of zingers in other places. I don't believe for a minute that his intent was innocent. His snark was weak, but it was still snark. Again, I have no issue with you if you feel differently.
