Jags In Pursuit of Mesa CC Ballhawk
Jags coaches have spent this past week scouring the junior colleges in search of cornerbacks and offensive linemen. Looks like they may have found one in Mesa CC's Tyrell Peterson. This kid is the definition of a ballhawk. As a senior in high school in Greenville, SC he led the state with 10 interceptions. At Mesa he had 35 tackles, four TFL, one sack, nine passes defensed and three picks (one returned 98 yards for a TD) as a freshman. As a sophomore he had 39 tackles, one TFL, 10 passes defensed and eight interceptions.
He only has an offer from Prairie View A&M right now. Arizona State, Colorado State and Utah have shown interest but he would like to get closer to home. He's small (5'9" 165lbs) and I'm not sure if he is going to graduate this fall or in the spring. USA would rather have all the JC guys be in spring practice. He was on track for a spring graduation but Utah told him in May that if he could be eligible in December that would increase his odds of a scholarship offer, so maybe he accelerated things.
I believe he has scheduled a visit to USA.

I just found out that USA coaches are coming by on Monday and they are setting up a visit to Mobile.
Charleston Southern has offered him.

Charleston Southern, a FCS school offered him, but is he really the calibre player we need? If this program is to evolve to playing the teams on our future schedules, we need to go after the best.

The "honey badger" at LSU is 5'9, corner back is one position that ball skills outweigh the desired height and weight measurements. We need corners bad. What happened with Demond Smith? Any news lately?

I'm curious about Smith as well as Tuskegee transfer Marquel Gardner.

I was told that no one should ever expect to see Smith in a Jag uniform again. He came in on a short leash because of problems at Central Michigan and apparently he couldn't live within the restrictions.
I was told by the coaches earlier this year that they like Gardner. Not sure where he figures in their plans right now because they are closing in on a couple of safety prospects.

Most of our DB's are less than six feet. I would hope we hold a couple places on our recruit list for six plus guys.

I don't think there are many DB's over 6' anywhere. There are three qualities needed to be a db 1) speed 2) not be able to catch 3) be under 6'. The WR that can't catch the ball are moved to defense.

Oh.......Are you sure about that. Dumas is somewhere between 6' and, or 6'2".

Corners are usually 6' or under, because of quickness needs. But, safeties are mostly 6' or over. Or, at least I believe that is how CSaban measures them. Example: Mark Baron. Foley's Lester; former safety Robbie Green ( Big and fast). BTW. Mark Baron was a WR at St. Paul's. And, I believe he could catch the ball.

Safeties normally need more size because they are smaller linebackers. Big backs are hard for smaller backs to put on the ground.

But, I agree that big and slow doesn't cut it.

Yeah I guess you are right. There are alot of safeties over 6'. I should have specified cornerbacks.

Whatever happened to Robbie Green? That would have a been a nice transfer. That's assuming he came here with a good attitude and work ethic.

Maybe he gives out free shoes, like his father did at Free Shoes University.
Of course Terry would hand out a certain children's brand........

Well, he did get Auburn into some hot water. Maybe he's just a little more slick in his "advanced" years.

I do remember the day that ESPN listed Janoris Jenkins as transferring to South Alabama.
It was too good to be true. Those knuckleheads don't understand north from south!
Have you seen N. Alabama's roster? It's peppered with FBS transfers. Guys from schools
like Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Florida, FSU, Georgia, Navy...wait!! I didn't know you could
transfer out of a commitment!

Verbal or signed. Yes you can.....but, if signed, the athelete would loose a year of eligibility (Just as someone who had played a year and decided to transfer.) If just verbal; A transfer can occur with nothing being lost.
