WMU to Detroit? Could happen
Things fall right, Toledo knows they have the secondary agreement open... Do they decline lcb for WMU and end up going to St petes or San Fran?
We have lost our last three times there. And WMU may have a good shot at beating the big10 team, and would have good attendance. Toledo would draw as well as anyone in the Mac in San Fran or St petes, plus they are a little better than WMU or temple...

Not if it's Illinois in the Pizza. Bowls typically like to stay away from regular season rematches in bowls.

It'll be Toledo, Ohio, or NIU most likely in Detroit.

Or if Toledo declines, OU goes to pizza and WMU to Idaho, then Toledo to the secondary.... NIU will be in mobile unless they decline that IMO.

What makes people think Toledo can decline a primary MAC bowl agreement? LCB has the #2 pick. That pick cannot say no unless they decline going to a bowl at all. It's not up to the schools. It's up to the bowls.

Where do people get this stuff?

Why can't we? We can say no if we don't want to go? Then if we are invited by another bowl then we could accept that. I've never heard anyone say it's not aloud.

I would have to think we would draw very well in Florida. 2K alums in Atlanta, and god knows how many thousands in Florida. Not to mention a lot of us have family in Florida and go down to visit frequently. As far as SF goes, we have 2K+ alums in the Bay Area, 3,500 in the LA area, and 1,300+ in Arizona. I think we would represent pretty well in SF too.

You can't because you are in the MAC and the MAC has an agreement, i.e. contract, with that bowl that says the MAC will provide that bowl this year with their second pick after Mobile picks. It's not up to the school.

Two things:
1. Toledo won't decline a LCB Bowl invite, because ....
2. Toledo can't decline a LCB Bowl invite.

As Axeme said, it's an agreement between the MAC and the bowls. Period.

Interesting.

There is no guarantee yet that the Pizza Bowl is going to have a Big Ten representative so in that case it could very well be a MAC-SBC game and the top of picks of the MAC would look elsewhere for opportunties.

Nobody at Toledo is declining anything.

Very irritating thread.

Key quote:

Quote:If Toledo, which is unlikely to want a return trip to the Motor City, is taken elsewhere, the WMU figures to have a decent chance at winding up in Detroit. The MAC probably needs to get four teams in bowl games to make that happen.

The only "elsewhere" Toledo could be taken is Mobile. No other bowl can take them before the LCB chooses.

Go-Daddy seems likely to take NIU if they win the MACC. If they lose to Ohio, Mobile might take Ohio to have the SBC-MAC Champs squaring off.

In either event, the LCB would probably take their best option: a high-scoring UT team that has a great local fan base. Do they choose WMU over Toledo? Unlikely. They might take WMU over NIU if NIU loses the MACC which would probably make NIU fans happy, too, to get a bowl elsewhere.

I found the

part far more telling.

I agree. As much as UofTFans think we are cream of the crop, king of the mountain, best of the best, God's gift to the MAC, etc., we are not in the position to turn down ANY bowl bid, unless we want to sit home for the bowl season.

RE: WMU to Detroit? Could happen
The question remains, where is Toledo going to be taken before the LCB has to decide whom it wants? Do they take WMU over Toledo? The article seems to say 'no.' It gives WMU its best shot at the LCB "If Toledo is taken elsewhere..."

Maybe the LCB really doesn't want Toledo and wants to set the stage for getting WMU without insulting Toledo, who finished higher and beat WMU, because for whatever reason, they think WMU will bring more fans and interest to Detroit than Toledo. But that is the only reason they would pick WMU with Toledo still on the board.

Agreed +1!!!

UT will go where the MAC ends up sending them. I don't believe this is a UT decision. It is up to the bowls and the conferences. The MAC can always work with the bowls to set up better matchups and scenarios. UT isn't declining ANY bowl invitation!!!

Okay but could WMU and the LCB work something out with the secondary agreements. Where WMU goes to Detroit, and Toledo is sent to an open secondary San Fran bowl against a Pac-12 team. I think that's possible.

They don't have to work a deal. They can just take WMU over Toledo if that is their preference.

Only NIU and Ohio are guaranteed bowls. Among the three MAC bowls, those two are going. Toledo does not have to be invited, but I imagine they will be more desired than any of the other MAC bowl eligible teams who aren't in the MACC.
