MAC releases MBK TV schedules for STO and ESPN
http://www.mac-sports.com/News/tabid/969...ckage.aspx

20 regular season games on STO and another six conference tournament games. ESPN has four ESPNU wildcard games and one ESPN/ESPN2 game, plus the championship.

STO has the semis, quarters, and second round televised from Cleveland.

That is good exposure for some of the teams in the conference not named Kent or Akron. Figuring those 2 schools will finish 1 and 2 and bypass to the semifinals, other schools will have a chance here at TV games.

Womens: would like to see Toledo even more, potential top 25 team and very entertaining. Also more of central, been good and add best mac recruiting class ever.

Mens: Even more Kent (like Toledo above), more Ohio, Buffalo, Northern (great recruiting class). not sure why we get more bg than ohio, buffalo, or ball st? wish espn would show good mac teams at home against non-conf foes.

This is a much better STO package than last year featuring almost entirely Kent State and Akron matchups. It now designed to cover the league in a broader sense. The 21 day wildcard selections are good because it gives a team a chance to play its way into more TV opportunities.

The next BB contract though I really think the MAC should be looking outside of ESPN as they just don't offer the conference enough exposure in the sport. The MAC had to partner with ESPN just to get its football games on TV but this year the conference had more ESPN appearances than any other.

Its time to move to a more limited amount of football TV games on ESPN for more money (5-6 million) and then partner with Versus for an extensive men's basketball package. That is the problem in the MAC, not enough programs are earning TV time for basketball which is impacting recruiting negatively. The MAC deserves better than this.

STO puts on a nice broadcast, but unfortunately it's blacked-out for us.

Akron signed an additional, individual deal with STO which the MAC likes to include in their own lineup to make it look a little bigger.

I have no problem with STO showing Akron and Kent St. If would want on TV put a good team on court. Akron and Kent St have been consistent 20 plus game winner last several years. No other MAC school is close to that. They are the NC-Duke of the MAC because its a sure thing. Showing EMU, NIU, Toledo and CMU doesn't attract viewers. A showdown of 20 game losers every year. I completely understand why the MAC tilts toward Kent St and Akron. They win and they win non-conference games and also get deep into the MAC tournament. Kent St and Akron have earn it. The other schools haven't stepped up and delivered a consistent product.

I have no problem with Akron and Kent State getting football TV time on ESPN, even though they haven't "earned it".

Good lord, man! Didn't you see enough of KSU last week to last a season? I know I did. Put some other team on TV.

I don't think this conference should be like the Big 12 where one or two teams dictate the rest of the conference.

Everyone should get their equal share (if you are an all-sports member), whether it be TV time or money.

It doesn't help the rest of the conference just to show NIU and Toledo games in football, just like it doesn't help the rest of the conference to just show Akron and Kent State games in basketball.

This is how the STO package breaks down per team. It seems pretty fair to me with EMU getting the short end of the stick.

BSU - 3
CMU - 2
EMU - 1
NIU - 2
Toledo - 2
WMU - 4

Akron - 4
BGSU - 3
Buffalo - 3
Kent - 5
Miami - 2
Ohio - 3

The MAC needs to sign a contract with another TV network to get more games out there. I'm sorry but the simple fact that the MAC has twice the exposure in football as it does in basketball while that has twice as many games is dubious.

Whats the point of putting EMU on TV when they barely draw 600 people for home games. If there is no fan base, then they shouldn't be on tv, who wants to watch a game when the stands are empty.
