RE: My MAC Prediction
It's funny how unbalanced our divisions are in basketball & football. IMO 4 of the top 6 teams are in the West. Of course the big difference between basketball and football is that winning the division in basketball only gets you a bye in the tournament where you still have to beat multiple teams to win a championship. In football winning the weaker division gets you a bid to the championship game, where all it takes is one game and you're the MAC Champs. It should be an interesting year in the MAC.

The results please...
Since 2005
Football : East 3 - West 3
Basketball: East 6 - West 0
Remind me again just how unbalanced the football divisions are?
This Season I would say the top two or three of each division in football are pretty damn close (with the exception of NIU who is likely a bit better than anyone in either division)
A lot of hype around WMU but c'mon

Good point. Basketball power is in the East but the West for football. The MAC is going to be fairly competitive this year. With no true favorite.

That's the same Bill Cubit that's 14-3 against the East and has never lost to Buffalo? OK.
You can use the tiny sample size of the MACCG, or you can look at total wins and losses-- can't find it off hand but I know someone has kept track of it the last couple years, and it hasn't been pretty.

That's the same Bill Cuibt who's needed overtime in the *both* of the last two matchups.. Oh yea oh so dominant... Still my point was not "Buffalo is better than WMU" my point is it seems like *every year* we hear "This is the year Cubit and the Bronco's get it done.
The west MAC Champs were *all* CMU where as the East has three different Champs in the past six years.

2-2 against Buffalo since you joined the mac and you're 2-3 since starting MAC play the year before... On top of that how many MACC's have the owls won? How many division titles?

I've already addressed this in my first post. If basketball were structured like football, and the two division winners played for the championship in one game, the results would look much different. I know as a UB fan you'll complain about this, but Buffalo was not even close to the best team in the MAC the year they won it in football. Had they played in the West, they would have been in 5th...that's FIFTH place. Now they played well in the championship game, and deserved to win that game, but the fact of the matter is that they had no business being IN that game. The same could be said about Akron in 2005. The only legit champion from the East in the last 6 years was Miami last year. And you wouldn't be hard pressed to find people who would tell you that while Miami was a very good team last year, NIU was the best team in the MAC.
Anyone suggesting that the MAC West hasn't dominated football over the last 6-7 years is delusional. Just as anyone who would suggest the opposite in basketball.

Yea the east is usually a lot softer at the bottom. The West has EMU that is awful just about every year but the east usually feature 3 teams of the caliber.
Its not really comparable to hoops, at all, because you *might* have one team in the west that would not finish dead last in the east but usually any of the top 4 teams in the east (if not 6) would be a top two team in the west..
The last time a west team even made the MACC final was 2004...

Prior to last year, how many years would the MAC East champ finished better than 3rd in the MAC West in football? Most years it would be 4-5th and you have to take into account they they are playing all the teams in the MAC East. If they went round robin in the West it would be even worse. If you truly want to measure the divisions in football, look at the crossover records the last 6 years. I will guarantee that it's not even close, probably similar to the inverse of basketball. Hell CMU has only lost tjre games to the MAC East in the previous 6 years, and they were all last year.
Here are the records as I'm bored:
BSU 10-6
CMU 16-2
EMU 4-12
NIU 12-5
UT 10-7
WMU 12-3
Those don't include Temple for some reason, which would drag down the East even more. Every single team besides EMU has a solid winning record against the East.
