Here we go again
TAMU accepted to the SEC.
This will create a mad scramble to create superconferences, or at least for 14-team ones.
The MAC was a pioneer!

RE: Here we go again
I am actually not happy if this is true. My family is a bunch of Florida alumni and we want nothing to do with A&M. They just do not excite us in any way at all.

It might open the doors for FSU to join to balance divisions.

Just when I thought we were done with "let's add _____" to the MAC threads, this hits the fan.
Here we go again, indeed.

RE: Here we go again
I think their should be a bunch of 8 team conferences. 16 is too many. And 14 is a lot if there is more than two.
At least change the names of the geographical conferences.
Big10 needs to change the number.
MAC needs to change.
SBC is good for now.
Big East is all messed up with TCU
WAC is okay because west can mean a lot.
PAC12 may need a change.
Big12 should also change the number and maybe go to a geographical name.

ESPN has a story with the Texas Governor.
Report: Texas A&M considering SEC
Quote:Texas Gov. Rick Perry says his alma mater, Texas A&M, and the SEC are discussing the Aggies possible future membership in the league, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.
Perry was asked by reporters from the paper on Wednesday about recent swirling speculation surrounding the move.
"I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."
Perry once served as a yell leader for the university, whose president, R. Bowen Loftin, recently acknowledged that there was "uncertainty" regarding the university's future membership in the Big 12.
Texas A&M released this statement to multiple media outlets: "President Loftin is committed to doing what is best for Texas A&M not only now, but also into the future. We continue to have wide-ranging conversations regarding all aspects of the university, including both academics and athletics."
Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe is taking Texas A&M's possible move "very seriously."
"I've been talking to a number of people." Beebe told the Austin American-Statesman. "Obviously, there are a significant number of Aggie supporters who are interested in going in that (SEC) direction.
"There's a huge risk if an institution leaves its geographic proximity and rivalries. In the long run, it can create a lot of problems."

RE: Here we go again
I still say TAMU to the SEC is only 50/50. Look at what happened last year, everyone was reporting PAC-16 and it didn't go down.
TAMU to SEC indeed does happen, I expect minor changes to the landscape. The reports are it will be FSU, Clemson, NC State, or VT as the #14. Syracuse will probably move to the ACC as a replacement. The Big East will upgrade Nova as expected and stand pat at 9.
The BYU-MWC situation actually did more damage pulling schools into new confernces. I doubt CUSA is touched in this next round.
The 12 MAC all-sport schools aren't going anywhere, mark it down.

Hey they sound good if all you think about is football and nothing else (including the very likely possibility that they will leave).

Things will eventually roll down to the level of the MAC. most expansion last round was on teh western side of the country, but this new stuff affects the eastern conferences.

The only way the MAC is affected is if the Big East completely melts down.
For that to happen the ACC would have to expand to 14-16 schools following a raid by the SEC. I don't tink that is at all likely.

Not necessarily. The SEC could take FSU and stand at 14. The ACC would then also want to get to 14, so they raid the Big East for Syracuse, Pitt, and WVU. The Big East panics and grabs half of C-USA after a failed attempt to add the Big XII schools who are scared away by the instability. Then C-USA rebuilds with a mix of Sun Belt and MAC schools.

Gov Perry's TAMU succeeding from the B12?
If Texas succeeds from the Union, does TAMU need to succeed from the B12 sports scholars at ESPN wonder.

What I'm reading above fits the qualifications of a BE meltdown.

As was Gerald Ford. I thought we were past the point that being a cheerleader was somehow a strike against a person.
