I wish! Sadly, I don't see it happening as long as our current president is there. He seems to have no interest in it. This subject has been discussed exhaustively on both of our boards numerous times.

There's a facebook page dedicated to the name change, but I despair for a name change anytime soon. The article is great, but I don't expect any action...

I hope you guys switch....so we can still call you MTSU....just to get a rise out of you. It's entertaining. Watch this. ULL or U-LaLa. Now this will instantly become a 5 page thread, with guys from other conference schools joining in.

What would you rename your university? Can't rename it tenn tech or tenn state. What name is out there that would change anything? Southern Miss does pretty well with their name and so does USC. How is Middle Tenn any different?

Instead of Middle Tennessee State University, I think they might want to use the University of Middle Tennessee. They could use UMT or MT (already do) for short. I think this is the name that gets a lot of talk among fans.

Taking out the State part does take away that regional feel from the name.

I disagree. The University of Middle Tennessee sounds much better than Middle Tennessee State University. UMT or MT is much better than MTSU. Dropping "state" from the name is critical in my opinion. Memphis, North Texas, and Troy did not change theirs for no reason. Unfortunately, our president does not want to pursue the name change (I won't get into why) so we are stuck with what we have for now.

Bad example since ULL hasn't actually changed their name, it would be like using USL or Troy State.

Article Excerpt
North Texas increased its endowment over 300 percent in just a few years after developing a strategic plan with the name change serving as the cornerstone. The same results have played out at over a dozen universities since.

Our prez is more concerned about getting a new science building, which is on the top of the state docket.

I don't think the prez is opposed to the change, he just doesn't have a leg to stand on (for various reasons). 03-banghead

You don't think University of Southern California sounds better than Southern California State University?

I mean it sounds better as Middle Tenn then MTSU. Because it sounds less like a Kent state or a northwestern state and more like a southern cal and southern miss.

Ohio State University or University of Ohio?

Just remember, dropping the 'state' or 'direction' from the names don't make the programs any better.

That's different. Middle Tenn, sounds better without the state part. You can get away with state if you are Ark st. or Tx st. but add a direction and not so much. I'm not bashing anybodies school by saying this its just an opinion.

The problem with Middle Tennessee State is it makes you look like you're a subsidiary of Tennessee State University. Hope that gets through. I know how much you guys want to be just MIddle Tennessee.

I don't think many of us would mind it if we were "TSU", as long as they combined the U's and kept the main campus in Murfreesboro (along with the nickname).

But politics will never allow it to happen-- TSU is losing money hand over fist (and the money just seems to 'disappear'). Our state tax dollars at work.
