Cyber, I could list many, many things I know from living in Tampa and being close friends with the old director of admissions for USF but it will only cause me to get knocked off this board. But know this, USF cleaned up its act a couple years ago because they were told to but what was being done in the name of football most likely played a big part of why Skip is there.

RE: Here's the New York Times on UCF Cheating on basketball and football recruiting.
I also don't see the UCF connection. The minute I heard Caldwell was from Chicago I thought Jordan's rotton kid who also play for UCF trying to build up the squad.

Don't forget Jordan has a brat playing for UCF and blowing tons of daddy's money in Las Vagas. I don't see UCF making this investment for BB because let's face it, UCF will suck in BB along with most of CUSA not named Memphis.

I don't see the Florida school reaching out to a con man from Chicago when their celebrity player with a wad of dads money also just happens to be from Chicago. Mike make have to get the belt.

Caldwell said he works for Nike. The Jordan brand is a subsid of Nike. I just don't see UCF risking the rules to build a BB program in CUSA. Maybe after they were in teh BE I could see that but they will never, ever, never get top recruits outside of Jordan's kid and he's not a top recruit. I think there's more to this story to come out. But with the number of kids UCF has out of Chicago already--

"Six players on the current UCF roster hail from greater Chicago -- Caldwell's home area. That includes three -- A.J. Rompza, Marcus Jordan (Michael Jordan's son) and Dwight McCombs -- who played for Whitney Young High School. Whitney Young coach Tyrone Slaughter is the director of Ferrari Youth Basketball, for which Caldwell once served as an assistant coach. Caldwell said he considers Rompza almost a member of the family, and said he helped get previous UCF coach Kirk Speraw interested in recruiting the guard -- and that, in turn, opened the Chicago-to-Orlando pipeline."

Coincidence-- In all the names listed above Marcus is the man and the only one with the clout and any chance to make anything happen? EVerybody else is just a bunch of clowns.

Actually, the Syracuse writer mentions that the runner was friends with Rompza first. Rompza was a Speraw recruit.
If Donnie Jones needed this guy to score big recruits than how does that explain his recruiting success at Marshall? How did he get Whiteside to Huntington? How does any top recruit decide to go to Marshall? It seems like he wouldn't need a lot of help at UCF to me.

03-shhhh Those articles don't seem kosher if you really take the time to pull at the loose threads.

One thing clear in this situation is that Caldwell is bad news. His statements, true or not, will likely result in UCF getting in trouble with the NCAA.

At the same time, I can sympathize with UCF fans saying this reads like a hit piece. Thames could have written a great article about the problems with NCAA recruiting these days, going into detail about "runners" and their involvement with multiple NCAA programs. Instead, he chose a very narrow focus for his story by only going after Caldwell and UCF. I think a lot of other programs are involved with this kind of crap.

We shall see if anything develops from this, but one thing is for sure, this is the kind of attention that is not wanted by any school.

I guess some of the Card fans missed the part about Caldwell's involvement with UL signee Nunez or UF signee Pearson or an OSU signee. This is just this recruiting year. Those two hack jobs Forde and Thamel did not mention that in their hit piece.

Finally, Caldwell's son attends UCF and went to the same high school as the Jordans and Rompza. I wonder if might be a reason his is pimping UCF.

Actually that might raise more questions. Did the kid get in there on the up and up or where strings pulled to get him in. Is he getting any financial aid?

We have been hearing the same song and dance routine from this guy for so long and its just gets tiring of all the BS he spills. Thats why USF fans have zero tolerance for him.

A whole bunch of horse-sh*t about nothing. Even taking the article at face-value, UCF didn't do anything wrong. Bender/Caldwell don't work or receive any benefit from UCF. And honestly, the article is a bunch of mere accusations and heresay. There is no evidence presented. Until I see some evidence, I'm not going to believe poor journalism like this. The bad part about this, is that UCF's reputation gets slandered even if we've done absolutely nothing wrong.

A couple of things, by the way this doesn't look good at all. But loaning a kid money to see a sick parent is a weak cover because it has been used a ton of times as a cover. I have a hard time buying that. And pointing fingers at Louisville and UCF does no good for a number of reasons, 1.) they haven't been accused of things things and 2.) they're already in a BCS conference UCF is trying to get into one. That article is really, really damaging. The pressure is on you (UCF) to prove that these allegations are false because UCF is the one that is trying to get into a BCS conference.

The fact that caldwell's son went to same school as Roompsa and jordan and they are all at UCF raises the question on how did caldwell got there.
Your AD and Basketball coach signing up to follow caldwell's twitter raises more question about on whether he has ties to your athletic department.

now this might lead to nothing, but certaintly it has been picked up by many news outlets and sure to raise attention to UCF from NCAA and that is never a good sign for any school. Nothing good can ever come from bad news like this and increasing the odds of an NCAA investigation.

These sections in the article are not good at all. When given a chance to admit that they did nothing wrong this:

Quote:Central Florida officials have largely been silent on Caldwell and the potential N.C.A.A. violations, declining to address specific questions on Caldwell’s connection to university officials and his role in recruiting. Jones and Central Florida’s athletic director, Keith Tribble, both of whom have listed Caldwell as a person they follow on Twitter, declined multiple calls and text messages seeking comment.

Not good at all, and they could have easily have said it is not true, at least say it was not to their knowledge, unless they were concerned that the NCAA was sniffing around. And when someone finally does respond this is the quote:

Quote:“N.C.A.A. rules identify permissible recruiters,” Joe Hornstein, Central Florida’s associate director for athletics, said in a statement. “If there is information that indicates that other individuals are involved in recruiting activities, we will take corrective action.”

Not good.

You may be able to read but your ability to perceive is very limited. It took all of five minutes for me to find out that Caldwell is very connected to UL's recruit Nunez. It took the same amount of time to realize that both writers left out Caldwell's connections to dozens of other schools.

Say what you want about Bender but he can trace his relationship back to DeMarcus Smith when he was a child. Bender is in with Caldwell, Caldwell's actual son goes to UCF and went to high school with AJ Rompza and Marcus Jordan. If you can't follow the relationship you need help.

Finally, if you think Rick Pitino is not involved with the very same people you're crazy. I will go a step further and say that Pitino is probably the one that got Pat Forde involved with this because while it is okay for the established basketball schools to play by these rules, it is not okay for an up and coming school.

I was posting about USF admissions BS long before they fired the director of admissions and long before USF initiated an football only admissions review board made up of non athletic department personnel. I have many friends at USF including two that actually sit on USF's board. I have always said I have nothing against the school, just some of their fans and one or two administration. This is not the forum for it, I only post it because posters usffan and cyber here love to go on about what UCF does wrong much like Wilkie here. But what I have said has been proven.

Sir Robin, before further denigrating Wilkie's "ability to perceive" I suggest you review Bit's post #29 in this thread. It took "all of six posts" before you're back to your same MO.

Because there is no NCAA violations. the story here will end up being two close friends of the Louisville basketball program wrote a hit piece on UCF and why. The good thing for UCF is Orlando's own hit piece writer is looking into just that.

The problem with that is there is no substantive evidence that UCF has to explain away.

The story has a tone about it that resembles the Mel Gibson movie Conspiracy Theory.

Twitter buds?? Really? I have a twitter and don't know most of the people that I follow, or who follow me.

So because it is in the NY Times or ESPN blog it must be true? Where is the actual proof? You have a high school football coach who lives in Louisville who's prize player choses to leave the area, gee I guess he does not have an agenda.

You have a writer who is very close with the basketball coach who has lost out on two players they were recruiting. Gee, guess he does not have an agenda?

You have a mother of another recruit who did not want her son going to UCF but to another scchool, gee guess there is not agenda there.

What I know is newpaper writers can write anything they want without much proof. I have been interviewed dozens of times and never once was what I thought I actually said what was actually written.

As for me going back to my "MO." I guess it is okay for the USF mod and others to use derogatory comments about Knight Light and myself, but hey just like this situation here, apply rules where you would like.
