REALLY?

Big East approved a PLAN to go to 10. They didn't necessarily approve going to 10. Does that make sense? I might be wrong but that approved plan might have been invite TCU all sports, ask Nova if they want to move up.

That being said, would love to see ECU football, Houston or UCF get invited and actually have a football team play. Get that ECU fan base (poor Skip though if that happens, he could have had the best of both worlds)

That does make sense. The BBall schools might have approved a plan that included only 1 additional BBall member.

To get to 10 might require going back to the BBall members now. Which I wouldn't be optimistic about. 'Nova and their voting block won't be supportive of any new BBall members.

all I know is this has dragged on so long we've had way too much time to read into each word used in that initial announcement by the BE, and I don't think they really fretted over their word choice.

If we go to ten, please just be a school with a football team lol.

This quote from the press release shows end result is 10, not a plan to look at getting to 10. But, I would also add there are some areas in that statement to be versatile in their plan.

PHILADELPHIA - The BIG EAST Conference submitted the results of its extensive self-analysis and evaluation of the college athletics environment today at its annual Conference Board of Directors meeting. Based on those results, the BIG EAST presidents agreed that the interests of each of the conference’s 16 member institutions would be served by increasing the number of Bowl Subdivision football-playing members to 10. They unanimously approved the process to evaluate the terms and conditions for potential expansion candidates.
"Today, our Board of Directors affirmed a set of key strategic initiatives, including expansion, designed to enhance membership stability and maximize our value," stated Commissioner John Marinatto.

Marinatto said the conference will refrain from commenting further on the expansion process.

I think the football schools (well, half of them at least) are sending the message that they will push their OWN agenda, and if the basketball schools want to hop on, they are welcome to join...otherwise it may be time for a breakup.

Did you just type 'Welcome to the Big East' to a UH Cougar fan? I'm sure that prompted a new thread on our board.

Well it definately shows there is a power struggle going on in the Big East. Obviously, we are not seeing a united front from the Big East.

I mean we kept getting this line, that it was the "football schools" that invited Nova. Really?!? Well then why do we have this? Everyone knows that PPL is Nova's only option, aside from Franklin Field. Is that what the football schools expected? A plan using Franklin? Doesn't add up aside from the point that some of the football schools knew ahead of time that they would never approve Nova.

My question is, why this reaction from Nova? What hope do they have going forward? Why wasn't the announcement, that they wanted to move up, Big East said no, end of story? What more could Nova do at this point? Work a deal with Franklin?

Then if not Nova, will the basketball schools allow member #18? If not, I think the split is back on the table.

Whoa re these "basketball schools" you refer to? Do you really think Notre Dame and Providence vote together? That 29-sport Georgetown has common interests with 14-sport-minimum DePaul? Does anyone remember the school whose vote allowed Rutgers and VTech in the league? St. John's.

Then again, we all know UConn, Pitt, and Louisville think alike.

Well Pitt, West Virginia, Louisville, Cincinnati and South Florida do better much. I bet TCU will, too.

Nova is really weak for a football pickup, think umass/udel would be better if your going down that road. Also, don't know why the big east needs to jump to 10, 9 or 12+ should be the format. Heck, i like bringing in st louis u, than balance everything off at 18 with 9 football school's/ 9 catholic hoops. The better plan is probably 4 five team pods with 12 football school's in the mix...or i guess the army, navy, afa, byu football only could work too.

And we would sue to high hell if that happened. One of the reasons we were booted was because of a lack of stadium control, which Nova would not have seeing as FF is Penn's. Not to mention the BE was not happy with how decrepit FF was, and it's even worse now.

St. Louis? What, Gonzaga isn't available? I'd rather take a Northeastern school like UMass, Richmond, or Holy Cross than spread the map out even further.

So I guess this doesn't bode well for Georgetown's presentation...
