Fight songs Who's better?
I've heard the ETSU fight song tune a zillion times...I like it but I don't know the words. Here they are with the tune from youtube.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp_TRzPU8c0

Now you can compare with the MTSU song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxUTu1XbSFo&NR=1

Which do you like better? I'm for something that ETSU fans could actually know and sing! Just another in a long list of things that need fixin in the ETSU athletic department....

RE: Fight songs Who's better?
I like ours much better.. but then I have heard it since the 1960's
Back then the freshmen were required to learn the words...

I think it would be a terrible thing to change fight songs after 100 years..
I know a lot of UTC fans are still upset about the school changing the team name and fight song a few years back..

RE: Fight songs Who's better?
There is nothing wrong with ETSU's fight song, it is one of the better one's IMHO. There are a finite number of fight songs and many melodies are used by more than one school, I'm not sure who if anyone uses the same melody as ETSU? I personally like Northwestern's fight song (Elizabethton HS) the best, but it really depends on the orchestration of the song. Most fight songs sound hokey because the band, band director and arranger(s) approached the subject that it is just the fight song that they have played 10 million times rather than arranging and playing the song such that it has dignity instead.

By dignity, I mean so it won't be the idealized fight song of a comedy movie.

By the way, UT's fight song isn't Rocky Top.

It is one of Penn State's secondary songs, "Victory."

PSU version:
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! for the Blue and White,
Victory will our Slogan be.
Dear Alma Mater, Fairest of all
Thy loyal sons will obey thy call to
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! with all their might
Ever the goal to gain,
Into the game for Penn State’s fame, Fight on to vict’ry (WE! ARE! PENN! STATE!)
Fight on to Victory!

ETSU version:
Fight, fight, fight, with all your might,
Victory will our slogan be.
Dear Alma Mater, Fairest of all
Thy loyal sons will obey thy call to
Fight, fight, fight, with all your might,
Ever the goal to gain,
Into the game for old State’s fame,
Fight on to Victory!

RE: Fight songs Who's better?
Personally, I love our fight song. It is my ringtone to my phone, and I would never support changing it. Our fight song and play by play guy are one of the best in the country, in my opinion.

RE: Fight songs Who's better?
I love our fight song too. The lyrics are terrible you have to admit...but nobody knows lyrics so I guess it doesn't matter.

Maybe ETSU should add a song that could be sung...It's a missing ingredient, a missing part of spirit at ETSU games. A song with contemporary language instead of all those "Victory our slogan be" lines. Come on..."dearest Alma mater fairest of all." How 'bout some King James language... "thy loyal sons will obey thy call to..." What about our lady athletes... they are excluded... not fair.

Keep the song...never say the words but give us an additional fight song the Bucs can sing. The best example is the best song anywhere...Good ole Rocky Top. I think that tune has done something for Tennessee.

RE: Fight songs Who's better?
Personally I like MTSU's fight song better. I went to MTSU for 2 years before transferring to ETSU and during welcome week as a freshman at MT they had a night called "fight song" where all the freshmen went and learned the words to it. It wasn't mandatory but I was amazed by crowd of people showed up. When I came here I was expecting the same kind of orientation to the campus but nothing was mentioned about the athletics on campus like everyone was ashamed of them. It was really disappointing and I consider myself to have a lot of school pride and it seems like no other students care about the athletics here compared to MT.

ETSU's tune is better. They just need a band to play it. We used to do the Waltz more when football was around, but it is nice at the end of games.
