In the wake of today's report on the Fiesta scandal:
"The BCS reacted swiftly, saying it would undertake an investigation of its own to "consider whether the Fiesta Bowl should remain a BCS bowl game or other appropriate sanctions."

This doesn't help the Big East. Imagine trying to put that same Connecticut crowd into Texas Stadium.
It does however help conference USA, because if the Fiesta Bowl is no longer a BCS bowl, C-USA will actually have an outside shot of putting a team in it!

The SEC might be the big loser: It currently has the Cotton as a very nice #3 bowl, but if the Cotton goes to the BCS, it loses that, and the Fiesta will likely ink deals with the P10, B12, and/or B10, meaning the SEC loses a top bowl.
The other two bowls that have been very active about moving up should the Fiesta fall, the Cap One and the Chik-fil-A, are also SEC tie-ins, so i bet the SEC hopes the Fiesta pulls through and stays BCS ...

That, or either UCF, Tulsa, ECU, or Houston can go 12-1 and make a BCS bowl. That's also an outside shot, but it is a very plausible shot. UCF and Houston having the best chance of doing that. Tulsa has a kick ass OOC next year.
**on topic**
Cotton Bowl will be epic in Texas Stadium, but will look sore on TV with the lack of filled seats.
The Cotton bowl will take the Fiestas place. They have given to much ammo to Jerry Jones and the Big 12. The Big East should get with the Big 12 and push for this like crazy. The Big East could get an autobid to this bowl since TCU will be joining the conference.

Actually, it's much easier (and cheaper) to fly into DFW than it is to Phoenix. Southwest is headquartered in Dallas and it is no longer than a 4-hour flight from anywhere in the 48 states. The Cotton Bowl would be even better than the Sugar Bowl for BE fans to travel to!
PS...try making your sig smaller. You're clogging up the boards with pictures no one cares about!
If the Fiesta Bowl gets dropped by the BCS and survives in some form, it would probably be relegated to a mid-major bowl. The most likely short-term event would be to swap with the Cotton Bowl and be SEC-Big 12 until all of the other bowl affiliations expire.

Is that really what we want? I always liked the idea of the fact that our champion got to go to different bowls each year instead of going to the same place every year.

But if you are tied in, you are not usually the last selected and therefore will usually get a better matchup.

Very good point. This alone makes the Cotton Bowl an attractive option. I'd suggest the Capital One Bowl (aka Citrus Bowl), but aside from the new faux turf, the place is a dump. That being said, Jerry Jones and the DFW market has dropped alot of money into that behemoth of a stadium. Wouldn't make sense to waste it.

Also, if you are tied in as an anchor to a bcs bowl, you cannot be kicked out of the bcs, unless you are no longer tied in as an anchor. Thats what happened to the BE back in 2004 after the defections to the Acc and the Orange Bowl severed their tie in with the BE. Overnight the BE became suddenly vulnerable to bcs AQ review.

Good point - being anchored to a BCS bowl would solidfy our BCS position.
That said, if the Cotton does replace the Fiesta in the BCS, the Fiesta will surely align itself with the Big 12, not the Big East, and they will want to keep their other slot open to get good matchups.
It's hard to imagine the Cotton Bowl replacing the SEC with the Big East, which is what many are suggesting might happen ...

With the gross transgressions revealed in this report, we could see the NCAA seriously consider revoking the certification of the Fiesta and Insight Bowls.

What I ment was for the Cotton Bowl to be the Big 12 champion vs the Big East champion. Unless one is playing in the BCS National title. As far as Cotton bowl replacing the SEC. It really wouldn't have a choice. No conference gets 2 autobids to BCS bowls.
