RE: 81% in poll show UM/MSU fans didn't enroll in the school they cheer for.
Actually, 81% of those polled didn't go to either school, but aren't necessarily "fans" of UM/MSU. The true percentage of non-alum fans is 68%.
Quote:Of those polled, 81 percent said they have never been enrolled at either school, and among the non-alums group 35 percent said they were Michigan fans and 33 percent Michigan State fans.
I'm surprised at how close the 35% vs. 33% percentages are. It just doesn't seem accurate to me. It's always seemed that if a kid grows up, doesn't attend either school and latches onto one of them, far more of them "default" to UM than those that follow MSU, especially among males.
The only conclusion I can draw is that a lot of the 33% have kids that go to MSU. MSU has far more in-state students than Michigan does. Maybe if you remove "parents of UM or MSU students", the gap would be a lot wider.

"Of those polled, 81 percent said they have never been enrolled at either school"
I caught that too...tricky statistics...it should read...of those polled, 81 percent said they have never been enrolled at the college the pledge their allegiance towards.
At any rate it exposes our states wonderful Wal-Mart Wolverines and SuperCenter Spartans.

I'm not. We're talking about bandwagon fans. No one has bandwagoned onto the UM basketball bandwagon since Steve Fisher left town, and a decent chunk of those Walmart Wolverines quietly replaced their UM gear with MSU stuff midway through the 3rd quarter of MSU's 3rd straight win over Michigan in football.
If Michigan returns to perennial top 10-15, the split will widen again.

I would have thought the gap would be wider because MSU is easier to get into. It is easier to get to go to MSU if that is the school of your dreams and you can get rid of the Wal-Mart tag you can now walk as an alum. Just tells you how many people don't go to the school they cheer for.

In a similar story, 81% of WMU students have never attended a game at the school they currently attend.

And 87% of CMU students graduate illiterate and go on to be web board trolls by cutting and pasting their responses from others.

I don't see what the big deal is about Walmart Wolverines, I suppose because I am the extremely rare Walmart Bronco (I went to GVSU). I don't know, what do you guys think? Should I give up my bronco fan status and just be exclusively a Laker man?

And this differs from CMU how...?

Rooting for both schools isn't what earns you that moniker.
If you actively rooted against GVSU while endlessly praising the athletic/academic prowess of another school you didn't attend to them, then it shouldn't be any surprise if your fellow Lakers alumni don't show you much love.

RE: 81% in poll show UM/MSU fans didn't enroll in the school they cheer for.
LSSU is an embarassment to the name Laker..... GVSU beats them at everything, EVERYTHING! (Although I agree that Lakers is a dumb mascot for a school on a river and 30 minutes from a lake)
I always thought it would be cool if the two schools had a contest, in which the two schools competed against each other in every sport they both field a team in. The school that wins the most gets to stay the Lakers, the school that loses has to change mascots. It would be a good way to start a rivalry, get students involved, and bring attention to some sports that may not get much viewership otherwise.
Same goes for WMU and Boise State.
P.S Sorry for going way way off topic

Who cares? GV doesn't sponsor hockey.

From the same episode, the best Sunny episode ever:
Dennis: What the hell is that?
Kid: I don't know.
Dennis: That's diet.
Kid: (pause)
Dennis: Do I look like I need to be on a diet?
Kid: I don't know.
Dennis: Awful. Take a lap. (does the finger twirl)

Wow, in today's "The Morning Sun", the Mount Pleasant Daily news, is this poll:
Quote:A new poll finds Michigan residents evenly divided between MSU and U-M fans. How does mid-Michigan weigh in?
O Green and White
O Maize and Blue
How insulting and depressing! I guess I could see the Kalamazoo Gazette running something like that, but I'm glad we have Graham Couch on our side.
