Atlas Shrugged, Part 1, The Trailer
... No way it measures up to the best book ever written. Though that is a very high standard.

Haven't been to a movie in over 20 years. Might have to venture out for this one.

Too bad Ayn Rand turned out to be a fraud and was on Social Security and Medicare under the name Ann O'Connor (husbands name Frank O'Connor) all while decrying others that did so. This lady was one miserable atheist and now has been exposed. I encourage you to look it up. Sorry for the reality check but as we all know reality has a liberal bias.

Yea, because trying to get BACK the money stolen from you by the government is theft. Now that IS liberal bias.

Did she pay in. Not a question.

Movie isn't even released yet and it already begins.

Stolen? Do you have internet? Do you drive on paved roads? Do you ever enjoy a national park? Are you protected by our military? Seems like a good deal to me. Stolen? What you call taxation in nearly every case I call theft. Especially since roughly 2/3 of it is mandated redistribution of wealth.

I pay for the internet -- and handsomely. I pay for the paved roads every time I pay excise tax when refueling. I pay for that park in Income Tax. I pay for that military, though if that were all I paid for my taxes would be refreshingly less than 10% of my annual income instead of over 50%.

It's only the lowest tax rate if you're bad at both math and economics. Who do you think ultimately pays that world's highest corporate tax we have? If you ultimately add up all the taxes we pay, the average household tax burden is over 50%.

I am no fan of Reagan's work as President. I am merely a fan of his 1967 speech endorsing Barry Goldwater, which is still the best speech ever delivered by a Republican. A speech befitting, might I add, the best Republican of the modern era.

Class dismissed.

Rand writes a book and her big sin, her failing, she collected on the debt owed her.

Lets compare her to a few writers with opposing viewpoints. We all know their short comings.
Mao
Lenin
Stalin
Hitler
...

Yes, you on the left have so much more to be proud of.

Good points GTS. I would contend, however, that the Gettysburg Address is the best speech delivered by a Republican though.

Because it's relevant. When someone criticizes a capitalist it's natural to point out the obvious, what has been wrought by socialists.

I'm convinced Jesus was a libertarian. He said help others, not make the government redistribute wealth and help others. His emphasis was on voluntary personal action not forceful government coercion.

The modern internet is entirely born from the University realm and private sector. The internet precursor was DARPAnet invented obviously by DARPA. However, the concept was already around. Notice, btw, DARPA would also be paid for by my Income Tax. The modern internet was paid by something more precious and powerful: my free market purchasing power.

The Interstate system is also paid for by the federal excise tax. It was built because Ike saw the defense ramifications from the Autobahn in Germany. So really the US Interstate system owes its intellectual birth to the Nazis, just like every other high speed highway system. The most prominent feature of the Interstate system today is its high degree of decay throughout the country due to the misuse of the excise tax funds, and the federal government holding highway funds as ransom demanding states adhere to pointless and wasteful programs.

Corporate Tax is damn near 40%. Paid entirely by you at the register or in lower salary, might I add. If it's lower than that for an individual entity, it's because of crony capitalism. And, as you like to ask in your post, WHO MAKES THOSE SWEETHEART DEALS??

GPS was done by the Department of Defense.

The first Satellite TV relay was done by Telstar, owned and operated by AT&T. The Russians pushed it from there, but the private sector made it viable.

All of your examples were defense related. So I will again say if all I were paying for was defense, my Income Tax would be under 10% compared to the 50%+ it is right now courtesy of your theft and redistribution of wealth. So tell me -- how is my life made better by paying for people who refuse to provide for themself? Or, better yet, what do you come and do what you cowardly demand the government do for you. Come try to take 50% of my paycheck. I dare you.

Best book ever? Dude, you skipped through parts of it.

It's a great book, but not best ever.

The preview looked good. Would rather them see Taggart expand as an airline though. Passenger rail is a dud.

Is there anything more dangerous than a religious socialist/statist?

I am glad we can agree on something. 90% of the things I despised about Bush (I voted for him in 2000) are still taking place. I am no Obama fan. The conservatives simply have no viable candidate. It is the rights responsability to give the voters a choice. I AM IN TOTAL AGREEMENT ON THE OBAMA/DUBYA comparison. 04-cheers
