2012 Recruiting Thread
Yep I know it's early but college football never takes an off day. The following are 2012 recruits who've got NIU in their favs. OL Andrus Peet (son of Todd Peat) is among them.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...ch-results

Lots of help on the D side.

That link doesn't work; Rivals won't let you link to their search results. It just takes you to a complete listing of all the 2011 recruits in their database.

RE: 2012 Recruiting Thread
Thanks for the early info.

I'm waiting for a running back named Gage Harrah to pop up on Rivals. He plays for my alma mater (Crystal Lake Central) and is an unbelievable high school player.

He had a visit with Notre Dame prior to his junior season, so theoretically he should be listed in these databases sometime soon.

One large possibility is that he will choose to wrestle in the NCAA instead. That's probably his better sport, but he's great at both. Honestly similar to John Dergo from Morris 5 years ago.

Granted it doesn't matter till next February when it counts, but I would like to see this staff get some verbals earlier in the process than our previous staffs did. We have a lot more to sell to recruits now and should expect a higher level of recruit to come here. Good players tend to want to play with other good players, and if some good players verbal early others will follow suit.

Dont expect any verbals till June. May evaluation period. BCS offers then NIU can plan on their targets. If a BCS school offers early, little chance of getting a verbal from that kid.

meh, I'm really indifferent on getting them that early, would I like to see more before December than we had this year? Probably...but if a good player verbals in June, chances are there's still going to be schools looking at him and if he has a great senior year bigger schools are going to come calling.

I also think its a risk if we 1. get the class too filled quickly and 2. haven't even seen what the kid looks like as a senior in high school

I'm assuming next year we'll have the opportunity to bring in a maxed out class in terms of number of schollys since it doesn't appear like we used them all for this year.

We should have a few kids transferring out just because of the coaching change. This is normal and I would expect 2012 to have about 25 openings. There are 22 Seniors to be. The number could go as high as 27, depending on how many walk-ons earn scholarships.

So far the only recruits on the list who have offers from any programs are LB Biegel, OL Peat and WR Neal.

Toledo has 34 offers out! I do not know if that is the way to go.

I mean no one thought that they were going to nab a 4* this recruiting season either, not saying that 34 offers is not absurd, but how does it hurt a small school if they offer early on? I understand waiting until the BCS schools offer but offering early doesn't necessarily hurt a team like NIU in the long run IMO.

I agree, with a MAC school I would rather be the first to offer than to try and follow up a BCS school offer. To some kids, belive it or not, loyalty means something. Throw the offer at them early, and see if it sticks...if not, move on to the next.

Here's a really good article by SI's Andy Staples on recruiting, featuring a blurb about recent signee WR AJ Sebastiano: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/wr...ll-7-on-7/

Interesting article about two 'fan favorite' recruiting areas: Minnesota & Wisconsin: http://fringebowlteamblog.com/?p=3093

I'm sure our OL coach from the Dakotas will be hitting these areas hard.

A couple of interesting quotes from the article.....
Since the 2012 recruiting cycle is already well in progress and Coach Kill has emphasized recruiting in a 300-mile radius of campus,
.... 03-lmfao Kill practically ignored Chicagoland.

The Bison and Jackrabbits have pounded the pavement in Minnesota since they both transitioned from D2 to D1-AA several years ago and, as a result, more of the fringe FBS prospects appear to be heading to Fargo and Brookings rather than holding out for MAC level offers..... This is true. We have lost some Lineman over the last few years to ND & NDSU.
