Thursday Matinee Basketball
After a poor defensive first half, UB pulls away in the second half and knocks off Toledo 81-58. UB is now 14-6 and 6-2 in conference.

Huge game at Ball State this Saturday. BSU needs a win to get back on track, and UB wants to stay level with BG with a win against a team the Bulls have struggled against the past few years (1-4 the last four years, the lone win coming in the MAC Semis two years ago).

I will say this about Toledo: when their young players mature, and their influx of transfers start to play, they're going to be a good team in the West. I expect next year's matchup with the Bulls at Savage to be a tough one.

Tough game. I was keeping updated on the game throughout class; they were keeping it close for a long time. When I left class it was a 7 point game (49-42, I think). When I got to my car it was 62-44. I was like, wtf happened?

Many of the kids playing now won't be playing in a year or two. We have several walk-ons, and one starts. The transfers and the incoming recruits in the class we signed in December will really upgrade the level of talent on this team. I expect Toledo to be competitive in the MAC next year.

He's had some discipline issues, but let's face it.....he's 6-9 and weighs about 200 pounds. The winds from blizzard the other day would have knocked him over if he would have tried going outside.

anyijong, just had too many too breaks and never developed properly. he should have been a rs his first yr, but the roster was short and he was active but didn't play much or improve. then, joplin was fired and the new coach (we just hiss, never actually say his name anymore) kept changing up what he wanted players to do. for a about a month anyijong developed a tough side as a wiry but effective rebounder. later, he was moved into the 3 pt shooting role and played the perimeter. by the time our current coach got here, he was still 200 pounds and had never developed any part of his game much. people who know him speak well of him as a person and he's been a competent student. just a reminder of how a career trajectory at this level can rise or fall with the breaks and the difference between a good and mediocre player can be just a little better coaching and dedication.

He will always have a place in the pantheon of Rocket heroes however, for his walkoff tip-in against Massachusetts in the opener at the refurbished Savage Arena.

Yep, I was just thinking about that when the UB fan brought him up.
