Kibi is back and will play Saturday. It was
announced at the luncheon. Then I saw Eric later practicing free throws with Tramar, and he said he will be playing, or eligible to play, this Saturday. By the way, Tramar has beautiful free throw shooting form. Joe Kleine told us that Gus will amaze us next year. He's really high on him. I talked with Joe in private after the meeting and asked him if he thought Gus could possibly start next season, and he didn't hesitate and answered yes. That's a good sign.Funny moment. Eric came over and shook my hand and said he hadn't seen me around in quite awhile. I told him that was because practices were closed. It's good to know I was missed. 01-lauramac2

Did Joe say WHY Gus will be a revelation next year? What's going to happen between now and then that will change so drastically? I sure hope he's right but I just don't see it.

Sure like to know how they did that. Things have sure changed since I was in school. If you had an F at semester, you had to eat it. They wouldn't let you do make-up work, or hand in work that you failed to do during the semester.

They sometimes make exceptions for "evil geniuses".

They didn't have online classes when we were in school either. His class was an online class meaning he never even met his professor. All the work was done online and sent in by email. There could have been a legitimate mixup that caused him to receive a failing grade. I have no idea what it was, but it apparently had to be signed off on by the NCAA. I'm just glad to have Eric back.

I was at the luncheon, but never heard it announced. Still good to hear it now.

Those internets can be slow sometimes. Preferential treatment really stinks. So much for the halo over UALR.

Nothing against Gus, but I sure the hell hope we can recruit over the top of him for next year. I think Joe would have told you I would start next year and you would be getting me the ball....

Anyway, Gus would have to gain a ton of weight and strength to play starter minutes. He would have to develop a go to move. The only thing that makes feel like Joe really believes that is the fact that they are investing minutes in him now and not Marlo.

I would normally agree with you, but in this case, he really was high on Gus and didn't hesitate to broadcast it. When asked about Gus, he could have just come out with some statement like "he's coming along", or "I think he's going to do a good job for us down the line", but he emphasized that we will be amazed to see what Gus will bring to the table next year. He gave his reasons for why he and Steve feel this way, but I can't recall exactly what he said, so I won't try and repeat it. But I guess we'll have to find out next season, and could even see some evidence the rest of the season. Interesting to watch.

It's kind of hard to remember things when you drop into a conversational trance.

I think Gus has some very good upside. I wish he could have had a redshirt season this year but with Bails the only other post with any size at all we needed his height.
I think he will show alot of improvement over the next few years because he's a hard worker and will play smart and do the things the coaches want.

My observation from the bleachers. Anyone could see that Gus badly needs some bulking up. Coming from Austin Tx, you have to believe he was passed over by the dozens of schools in Texas. So IMO, it comes down to 1 of 2 things. 1. Our coaches see something we don't necessarily see, and they believe he is worth some investment. 2. He is being given 1 year to prove to the coaches he can be a contributor and worth keeping. Seems to me the coaches use every opportunity to get him some PT/experience. Wouldn't it be great if he turns out to be a real gem? Based on what we hear about those coming in, it seems Gus faces a big challenge. I definitely will be rooting for him.

At our level, you have to take some chances on high school big men.

Of course, that is the problem with mid-majors and good big men. Any post player with height, bulk and skills will be snatched up by the BCS schools. Mid-majors have to look for the projects. Let's do hope he is a diamond in the rough.
