RE: BGSU's big announcement
Sizable donation being announced before the OU game tomorrow.

No details as to the person or the amount. The number will be significant by all reports.

More to come.

I heard it was you, Ruit and I keep hearing seven figures to the left of the decimal. Yes?

RE: BGSU's big announcement
Likely it is all about keeping Miller there for years to come, adding to the facilities, which would also help the men's program.

Of course that's just a guess from an outsider that has no clue whatsoever about anything BG related so who the heck knows.

RE: BGSU's big announcement
Per a release today.......

The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department will hold a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6:15 p.m. to announce the single, largest gift in BGSU’s history, designated to benefit the men’s basketball program. The gift is also the largest one-time gift ever designated to a Mid-American Conference basketball program.

Either we are being set up for a big let down or this might be very interesting.

Sweet.....maybe not you can double the seating capacity of that new arena, so it is more in line with the rest of the conference. 03-wink

I thought I hold the current MAC record, 250.

No not 250K, but $250 (American). 03-lmfao

Yes. As long as the number includes an exponential fraction [less than four tablespoons.]

I heard it was $8M. Nice.

So if you get this money to be able to increase coaching salaries, among other things, do you pay the current coaches more and does it make them better, or do you get rid of them and get yourself some more expensive coaches?

Thought about that. Can't see paying more for guys who are there and unlikely to go anywhere anyway. So the $ goes elsewhere or BG gets new coaches. And is one of the conditions of the $ that staff gets upgraded? I don't know if things really work that way but I suspect there are at least some understandings that the $ will be used in certain ways. If I'm Orr I'm excited and very nervous.

$8Million could just about pay for a multi-sport indoor practice facility...........

If you didn't already have one that included an indoor track capable of hosting meets. 03-hissyfit

Yup...the Perry Fieldhouse was built in 1993. We were the first MAC school to build such a facility, IIRC.

Sure, if the donor didn't specifically designate it for men's basketball as the school's press release states.

RE: BGSU's big announcement
It's interesting. Being that they have the shiny new arena, what, my internet friends, can we guess would be the best way to spend that money (assuming that, as reported it has to be spent on men's hoops only)?

Coaches salaries. As pointed out, BG has a fairly newish coach who hasn't done well enough to entertain other offers and yet has the program pointing in a good direction. So no real change there, unless there are some incredible assistants Orr has been unable to hire.

Recruiting budget. Seems like an obvious choice. Can anyone speak to what you could do qualitatively with that much money towards recruiting?

PR. Getting the BG Hoops brand name out into the world more.

What else?

Kinda funny that there's so little news going on now that we're helping BG spend money. 02-13-banana[/b]
