Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat

PHOENIX — One of the Arizona shooting victims was arrested Saturday and then taken for a psychiatric evaluation after authorities said he took a picture of a tea party leader at televised town hall meeting and yelled: "you're dead."

James Eric Fuller, 63, objected to something Trent Humphries said during the forum taped for a special edition of ABC's "This Week" with Christiane Amanpour, Pima County sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan said. Fuller was in the front row and apparently became upset when Humphries suggested that any conversations about gun control should be delayed until all the dead were buried, KGUN-TV in Tucson reported.

Fuller was arrested on misdemeanor disorderly conduct and threat charges, Ogan said. While Fuller was being escorted out, deputies decided he needed a mental health evaluation and he was taken to a hospital, where he remained Saturday evening.

The hospital will determine when he will be released, Ogan said.

Fuller was one of 19 people shot at a Safeway store Jan. 8. Six people died and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords remains in critical condition with a bullet wound to the head.

Fuller described the shootings as "a bad crime drama" in an interview on CBS' "The Early Show." He said he felt a bullet that hit his knee but didn't know he had also been struck in the back. Fuller, a naval air veteran, drove himself to Northwest Hospital after being shot, according to the Arizona Daily Star. He was later taken to University Medical Center where he was released two days later.

The show was videotaped at St. Odilia's Catholic Church in Tucson. Victims, witnesses, emergency responders and some of those hailed as heroes after the shooting discussed the tragedy.

The special will air Sunday on "This Week" with Christiane Amanpour.

Stupid thing to do, but people who are shot tend to have some issues afterwards. Should go to jail, but really needs to get psychiatric assistance.

James Eric Fuller obviously went to the meeting to cause trouble. Typical entitlement minded baby boomer.

Obviously politically motivated and anti tea party. I suppose since no speculation is needed, the media will ignore it.

My mistake, should have said not covered with the same level of contempt as it would be if there were any chance he was a normal American.

When I first heard this last night on ABC news (who's doing the town hall meeting), they made no mention that the threat was made to the leader of the Tuscon Tea Party, nor that he said "you're dead." It was just that there was a "disturbance" and he was removed.

I didn't know the details until I heard it on Fox several hours later.

The guy was just shot! I'd be anti-guns if someone just tried to randomly blow my head off too! I'm sorry, he shouldn't have been allowed in to that townhall. Especially if he's got some sort of ptsd from the shooting... having him get mental help, and an eval was a great call on the deputies part.

If someone shot me, I'm gonna be pissed at the guy who shot me, not anyone else. Just like if I got hit while driving by a drunk guy, I'm gonna be pissed at him, not Toyota. Of course, I'm assuming he's pissed about the state of gun control laws in AZ. The article wasn't very in depth, and I really don't care enough at this point to look further into it.

The guy was clearly a left wing nutjob before he ever got shot.

He went on "Democracy Now" radio show and said the following:

Yes he got shot, and that tragic. But he blamed that shooting on a group of people who had nothing to do with it. Clearly the guy was an out to lunch liberal loon before he ever got shot.

However, much of that was said by Olbyloon, Matthews and the like frequently. So one could ask if he was responding to the inflamed rhetoric of those on the left by making that threat.

Sounds like he wasn't shot enough times.

I'm NOT anti-gun. believe me. I love the way it feels to fire a rifle. It's a powerful thing, but, my point was, this guy is not someone who should be in a townhall about gun control! Certainly not this fast.
And T-Monay... I've had a fatal car accident. It wasn't my fault. I blame the idiot drunk illegal immigrant who tried to run across the freeway in front of me. And I was LIVID with the Town of Hilton Head Island for not having street lights. (Heaven forbid! The light pollution hurts property value! Oh, and the Sea Turtles.)
