What is MuBar worth?
I know what he makes in terms of "published" salary.

But does anyone know what his actual take-home is??

I'm pretty sure I know. Anyone want to venture a guess or want to find out... it could be interesting and could pi$$ a LOT of people off.

Get to hunting.

A quarter of a million dollars for Bartow? Somebody is getting ripped off. Bartow ought to refund. Paid big Bucs to stink.

On the positive...he has graduated a few players.

Somewhere in the $200,000 range would be my bet when you add in everything.

Higher. I heard a figure from a realiable source connected with the BASA. I about fell over.

I'm trying to get a confirmation, his contact is public record and subject to disclosure if requested. No different that what was done to Chattanooga's coach a few weeks ago.

But also this

Quote:ETSU increases Bartow's annual salary stipend

More than three and a half years have passed since ETSU appeared in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Bucs coach Murry Bartow stands to take in a bonus of as much as $25,000 if ETSU accomplishes both feats this season.

Bartow’s contract, which was extended on Nov. 16 by ETSU Athletic Director Dave Mullins through June 30, 2012, was recently obtained by the Herald Courier.

Bartow’s annual salary stipend was increased to $180,000 with the extension.

"I’m appreciative," said Bartow, now in his fifth year with the program. "You’re always appreciative when you get years added to your contract. Dr. [ETSU President Paul] Stanton’s been great. Coach Mullins has been great. And I’m obviously very appreciative."

Bartow said that the process leading up to the current extension had never stalled or become tense.

"No," he said. "Coach Mullins and I have been discussing it. Obviously, he had to talk to Dr. Stanton and make sure there was approval there. But, no. It was just a matter of getting it done."

A memorandum sent by Mullins to Stanton on Nov. 14 regarding the contract extension supports Bartow’s statement.

"I apologize for the delay in finalizing this contract; however, Coach Bartow’s heavy recruiting travel schedule in September and October and the demands of preparing to open the season have delayed our attempts to meet on final terms of the contract," Mullins wrote.

Stanton also stated in a recent interview that Bartow’s contract extension was never in question.

"Not to my knowledge it hasn’t been," Stanton said. "Murry’s done a great job here. He works well with the kids and has had a great deal of success in a short amount of time."

Bartow’s base salary was increased from $127,527.51 to $130,000 via the extension. A stipend for radio and TV show appearances was reduced from $35,000 to $25,000 with the intention of decreasing the disparity between men’s and women’s coaches media stipends. And a stipend of $25,000 for "additional public relations, fund raising, facilities development, and departmental duties," was assigned as well.

Per the contract, Bartow’s overall salary increase hinged on his agreement to "new game guarantee revenues."

"We have typically secured $100,000-$120,000 in guarantees. For 2007-08 we secured $235,000, which can be used for basketball program and departmental improvements as needed," states Mullins in the memo.

Other financial items included in Bartow’s recent contract revision:

-$400 a month for a vehicle allowance.

-A bonus of 5 percent of season-ticket sales after 1,200 season tickets are sold.

-Bonus equal to 10 percent of the gross sales in advertising sales from the "Voice of the Bucs" radio network if those revenues gross more than $150,000.

-$16,000 family membership with monthly dues paid at the Ridges Country Club.

-$3,000 corporate membership with monthly dues paid at Johnson City Country Club.

-$5,000 bonus if ETSU wins the Atlantic Sun regular season championship or makes an NIT appearance.

-$500 bonus if the team grade-point average is 2.5; $250 bonus if the team GPA reaches 3.0.

ETSU has posted a 79-51 overall record since Bartow took over for Ed DeChellis following the 2002-03 season. The Bucs have won two regular season conference championships, one conference tournament championship and made one-and-out appearances in the NCAA (2004) and NIT (2007) tournaments during Bartow’s tenure.

"I really like it here," Bartow said. "We can win here. We can be successful here. We’ve got good history. And we’ve had some good teams. But we’ve still got a lot of things we need to get done. We need to get back to the NCAA tournament and [there are] some things we can get done."

RE: What is MuBar worth?
Just curious. Is Bartow's contract about the norm among mid-major's schools? Why, the smaller bonus for the higher team g.p.a.?

RE: What is MuBar worth?
I'm as critical of MuBar as anybody else, and I'm sensitive to the financial situation of higher education as a whole, but in no way does Bartow's pay bother me; it's more unfair that the player's aren't really given anything except their scholarships. Even Dumb and Dumber would acknowledge (maybe grudgingly, but still) that men's basketball is where ETSU's bread is buttered in terms of athletics and exposure. And if I was Bartow, I'd be busting my hump to get all the incentives and escalators to kick in - good for him, good for ETSU. Generally speaking, the men's hoops coach is probably worth every dollar of a contract like that to ETSU.

On the other hand, when most of the fans don't approach that level of income, and he does things like whine about folks leaving early in a blow-out or generally piss of the fans, you've got to wonder if the value is all there for this or any particular coach.
