Chips pull it out with late fumble recovery!
Chips over Broncs, 26-22. Big comeback win for the Chips in what has been a tough year for them. I don't get ESPNU so I didn't see the game...I would expect that CMU had a good crowd on hand to see their big rival in town.

I've been a broken record about this.

Cubit cannot...

1) Win key MAC games
2) Beat CMU

Ever.

It's not a "big comeback win" when the win was pretty much a guarantee from the start.

From what I saw the crowd did not look that big but then I do not know what it usually looks like.

RE: Chips pull it out with late fumble recovery!
Saw the stats...WMU with big rushing yardage and more overall yardage, but CMU with more yards per catch receiving. Looks like TO's killed the Broncs with 4, esp that last one inside the Chip's 5 yard line in the closing minutes when it looked like WMU was gonna win.

Not sure how cold it was up in Mt. Pleasant..it's pretty chilly here in Chicago tonight. CMU is really having a down year but I'd still be surprised if they didn't draw 20K for the their hated rival the Broncos!

I've been watching the UCF-Houston game on ESPN which has been very entertaining.......Houston has a nice lil' stadium and a good crowd tonight...I'm guessing about 30K capacity.

Broncos found a way to lose again. Almost a replay of last week except that this time a TD would have won the game. Instead of throwing a pick, our RB fumbles the ball inside of the 5.

Like death and taxes, WMU finds a way to F it up in dismal flats.

So... EMU beat BSU... who beat CMU... who beat WMU.... the MAC West is terrible besides NIU and UT.
Who knows who will end up 12th through 6th in the MAC this year.

WMU kept turning the ball over all game long. That was the difference. The crowd wasn't really that big, but the people that were there were pretty loud.

Each team had 5 fumbles. Difference is that they lost fewer of them than we did - AND the fumble on the doorstep with 1:15 left in the game was the killer.

Fans are calling for Cubit's head. Again.

Didn't CMU only lose one fumble whereas WMU lost 4?? Last time I checked the box score on ESPN no attendance was listed.....this game would've drawn a sell out on a Saturday afternoon no doubt.....still, I'd be shocked if 15K plus weren't on hand.

How many can be packed into that stadium.

According to the stats, we lost 4 of our 5 fumbles, CMU lost 1 of its 5 fumbles.

Reported as 22,355. Despite our down season we will end up in the top 3 MAC for attendance.

In 2008, for the same game, it drew a crowd of 30,302 (but, I believe that was for a Saturday game).

You guys now using the EMU model for attendance counting? Sure didn't look like 22K on TV. I'd have guessed about 18K, max. The cameras did their best to NOT show the mostly empty stands on the side with the band. Other than EMU, the only place you're likely to find fewer students will be the next 2 games at Waldo stadium.

Enjoy your win, chip fans. Maybe you will also win the ever so important attendance battle as well and then you can really celebrate.

RE: Chips pull it out with late fumble recovery!
The stadium is much larger on the press box (west) side than on the east side. The students occupy the south end zone and wrap around to the east side stands. The stands are a lot shorter on the south and west sides than they are on the west side. The south and east sides' top row is at ground level, while the west side's stands rise well above ground. I would guess (if the place was absolutely packed) that about 20,000 of the capacity 30,199 would not be seen on camera unless they ran a reverse shot.

I'm not saying that there were that many people there, because I wasn't there last night, but what gets on camera is the short side of the stadium with probably less than half as many rows as the west side has.

Were this game played tomorrow, I think we would have topped 28K. As for tonight, I was at the game and guesstimated 20,000 or so; I'd say the official tally was correct. Especially considering that many alums didn't enter the stadium until after kickoff (myself and guest included -- traffic issues at Novi and again in Lansing).

Indeed, the biggest problem at CMU, and most MAC stadiums, is that most fans sit on the home side, which is not normally shown unless the cameras do a full pan. (as Net indicates at CMU).

As indicated, the CMU students were in the endzone and wrapped along the east side.

My take is that CMU could have a crowd of say 18K and the east stands could still be mostly empty because they would hold visiting fans and WMU didn't appear to bring too many last night.

Hate to bring up EMU in regard to attendance but the attendance on the West side of Rynearson is usually say 5 or 6 or 7 x the attendance on the East side, depending how many visiting team fans attend (more visitor fans for Army, CMU, UT, etc.).

If one looks at the EMU Football page and in the upper left hand corner, one will see a crowd shot from the '09 Army game. (that crowd shot does not show any students - they are seated on the West side but at the North end (by the football building) That crowd density would have entended pretty well along the entire West side stands with some thinning down by the Convo end of the West stands.

http://www.emueagles.com/news/2010/9/4/F...h=football

Very impressive West stand crowd, yet maybe 3K or 4 (max) on the East side.

This website, probably the 5th story, has a great crowd shot from an Army game (don't know if it was '09 or '10).

Indeed.

The conference with the smallest ***** is constantly measuring it in the futile hope that it will someday grow to be 4 inches.

And they love to rag on the guy with the 3 1/2 inch *****!

(It's ok, Ypsi, at least you didn't spend a fortune grooming it like Zippy did. Theirs ain't growing either.)

RE: Chips pull it out with late fumble recovery!
As we are talking about CMU's stadium and attendance and students, I still don't believe aren't the students are seated on the East side say starting at the 30 yard line and then wrap INTO the endzone.

I went to the UVa game (EMU @ UVa two weeks ago) and sat in the end zone.

I saw 'half a game' - the half which was played in the half of the field nearest where I was sitting.

Why would a school have empty seats on the sideline and have their students seated in the endzone?
