AKC non-AQ Power Poll Week 6
Early returns are now in from MAC country. With UC up 28-0 on Miami in the first quarter at home that looks like an L for the MAC.

AKC MAC Power Poll Rankings for Week 6:

1. Northern Ill.
2. Temple
3. C. Michigan
4. Ohio
5. Toledo
6. Buffalo
7. W. Michigan
8. Miami U.
9. Kent State
10. Ball State
11. Bowling Green
12. Akron
13. E. Michigan

-Ohio is about back to where they started the season in the AKC poll probably ranked in the low 20's. Next week should be another easy win with lowly Akron at home.

-Aren't you glad I didn't rank Ball State high as some suggested after knocking off CMU last week?

-NIU takes over #1 spot in the MAC.

NIU in the AKC Power Poll by week:

Preseason #14
Week 1 #17
Week 2 #16
Week 3 #18
Week 4 #13
Week 5 #10
Week 6 #9 (Projected)

Note that other pollsters such as Observer on the CUSA board doesn't even have NIU in the top 20 yet while they've been in my top 20 all season long.

I go by the results on the week and I'm projecting Toledo to lose to Boise falling to 3-3 on the season.

The Bobcats are also 3-3 on the season and while they had a close early season season loss to Toledo this week they are winners and the same can't be said for the Rockets.

Eitherway, my AKC power poll will likely have Ohio only 1-2 spots ahead of Toledo an insignificant difference.

Playing BG and playing BSU are two different things. Toledo won AT Ohio, and Ohio would get slapped around by Boise State too. Toledo will probably lose this game bad, but they are hanging close late in the 1st quarter.

RE: AKC non-AQ Power Poll Week 6
BCS Buster watch week 6 (eligible in bold)

TCU (#1/AKC, #4/AP, #5/USA)
Boise State (#2/AKC, #3/AP, #4/USA)
Utah (#3/AKC, #10/USA, #11/AP)

Nevada (#4/AKC, #19/AP, #21/USA)
Air Force (#5/AKC, #23/AP, #23/USA)

http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

-Both TCU and Boise have votes for #1 in the country in the AP and Coaches poll. This is pretty amazing when you consider where the non-AQ was 8-10 years ago.

-At this point, I believe that these 5 schools above are the only viable BCS busters. They are the only schools with any kind of votes in the top 25. I don't think its possible for any other non-AQ schools to finish in top 16 of the rankings without support midway through the season. The exception may be Fresno State if they can win out sitting at only 2 losses.

Lets see the Ohio wins over D-1A opponents Eastern and BG have a combined 1 win. Oh i'm sorry you beat D-1AA Wofford as well. Congrats, on your team being a fraud.

I'm not gonna let you live this lame thread down if Ohio is fortunate enough to get to Detroit for their second beat down to Toledo this season.
But unfortunately i think Toledo may have to play Temple and deprive Rocket Nation of the pleasure...

According to Sagarin, Toledo has played the 13th toughest schedule in the country so far. I think any ratings should take this into account. Ohio has played the 104th toughest schedule and NIU the 103rd.

That is because Toledo played Ohio or at least part of it.

Toledo beat Ohio @ Ohio, and has played a way more difficult OOC schedule. Just don't see how you could rank Ohio over Toledo when the combined record of the two MAC team's Ohio has beaten is 1-11, and both of Toledo's MAC wins were on the road, against better teams. The Massey composite rankings have Toledo ranked 67th on average vs Ohio at 87.

-I don't do schedule comparators except in the form of assigning more points to wins over ranked teams, hence why TCU, Boise are so high in my poll.

-As I've already said, Toledo beating Ohio on the road is a quality win for the Rockets that is looking better each game as the Bobcats win.

-Ohio has a cream puff MAC schedule. I've said this since schedules were announced. For this reason with a half way decent team and a few breaks Ohio could win the MAC East.

Hell, every team in the MAC has a creampuff schedule. It's the MAC! It could only be more creampufferiffic if it were the Sun Belt.

NIU had a tougher one with MAC West+Temple. There is a difference across the league in schedule strength, Ohio having likely the very weakest.

You have to be in the MAC or SBC to tell the difference.
