Ford Field may eventually host Big Ten Championship

With it assumed to be the first weekend of December, the MAC will need to find a new home unless some dates are swapped around (that is, if Ford Field winds up being the host).

Cleveland, Chicago, or Indianapolis.

I don't see the Big 10 Championship game beign anywhere but Indianapolis, though.

It's going to be Indy... Smack in the middle of the B10 Footprint and a nice new dome... Though Soldier Field has to have some appeal..

Soldier Field has natural grass, not so good in late fall.

Is the Big Televelve pushing back their season to end when others do? If so, I would think the MAC can still use Ford Field and just have the games on different weekends or like a Friday (MAC) and Sunday (Big ?)

Another option would be to give anyone purchasing a ticket to the Big Ten championship game a free MAC Championshp ticket.

Having all those Big? fans going just to bash the MAC. Keep them out if possible.

Believe me.....from past experience I'd rather have a stadium full of MSU/UM fans rooting against CMU/WMU or whoever else we play in the MACC than having to go up against a local MAC crowd.

Ohio is probably the furthest school from Ford Field and it didn't serve our interest in 2006/2009.

UB might be farther, depends if you go north or south around the lake. Temple certainly is farther. But point taken. I wouldn't mind having some Big 10/12 fans at the MAC championship game to at least experience first hand a MAC game. The only offense in the Big 10/12 that has been as exciting on a consistent basis as the majority of the MAC offenses has been Northwestern. We could at minimum put on a good live game and maybe pick up a few more fans of the conference.

No reason why Ford Field couldn't host both games on back-to-back days if they wanted to. I just fear if they got the Big 10 game that they would not need/want the MAC game.

If that's the case, we can try to move it to Indianapolis. Failing that, have it at a home site.

RE: Ford Field may eventually host Big Ten Championship
I would love for the Big Ten title game to be in Chicago. I know a lot of detractors will say that Soldier Field is:

1) Too small (I blame Daley for this)
2) Crappy and somewhat dangerous field conditions (if you're a girl)
3) Harsh weather (see #2)

But what Soldier Field does have going for it is being located in the capital of the Big Ten where literally millions of alums reside. Plus, who wouldn't want to spend a weekend in December in the big city with all the Holiday festivites getting going and so forth.

Obviously, I am a Chicago homer, but I do think it would make the best setting for a Big Ten title match. But I agree that Indianapolis or Detroit will likely get the game mostly based on climate control capability.

Only two teams in the Big Ten are to the East of Detroit. Ten of them are to the west. It's really uncentered. Chicago would be right between the two divisions, almost perfectly centered between Nebraska and Penn State (east-west outliers) and between Indiana and Minnesota (north-south outliers). Indianapolis is also a better option geographically than Detroit.

Why would Indy want us?

Packers

Looks like the Packers might make a push for having the game at Lambeau.

Living in a state where UM/MSU fans generally will be going would ruin the experience. These are many times fans who didn't go to the school who probably didn't go to a school with as good of an education bashing fans that aren't bandwagon fans. These fans can be rude and degrade the atmosphere by taking away tickets from true fans and give us worse seats.

Example- Miami OH a CCHA team in hockey and watching the UM fans that believed it was their right to be in the game. Most of the fans were sitting there cheering for Wisconson.
