RE: The Temple drum beats louder...
Right after NIU joins the Big Ten... Temple and the MAC will be hanging out for a while. October 9th should be a great game...
Do you have a link to the game scuttle after NIU dismantled Temple in 2006. I remeber AG actually yelling at a fan in the stands telling them he hopes he is sitting right there intwo years when the owls come back... Would be intresting pre game hype leading up to this year... etc.
I did not see it here... http://niufootball.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
only the quote close to it "Obviously, I'm disappointed with the outcome today, but the kids are starting to develop the will to compete under any circumstances," Temple coach Al Golden said. "They were a little tougher than us, a little deeper than us, and a better football team than us today. But we're going to come up from here two years from now with the same team."

We'll find out if there is a new king of the MAC on 9/11 when CMU rolls into town.

Lets see if Temple can deliver.

Golden Al has proven, at least compared to past Temple coaches, that he can recruit. What I don't see from Golden Al is an ability to coach a team at the level it takes to win games. He has consistently come out on the short end during games that come down to the wire. To me, that says his players can hang, but somehow his decisions backfire.
2010 could be a make or break year for the legend that is Golden Al.

Golden is where Gill was last year, anything that remotely smells like a 6-6 season will put him on nearly everyones short list. If he ever figures out JoePa is immortal he won't last too much longer at Temple
As to his game day coaching? it has gotten better and better, the glaring mistakes last season were in the Nova Game, aside from that I don't recall any of the bone headed calls the plagued him in 08, 07..

I agree that Golden's weakness is definitely in-game coaching, but that has improved. And despite all that, the guy has won more games in the past two years than, geez, how many of the previous Temple coaches combined?

Nothing says "in-depth MAC coverage" like Fox Sports Southwest.

Nothing says "hasn't a clue" like CFN's Fiutak writing about the MAC.

I checked and Wallace on 19 games at Temple, which surprised me.
Nonetheless, Golden has won a bunch of games in his tenure. And the guy's gameday skills have improved.

BG,
As an honorary Temple fan...you should know that we don't bring up that name...As far as I am concerned, we didn't have a team while that "southern bumpkin" was our coach...

But why would Penn State even be interested in Golden? Or for that matter anyone else?
Sure, he's improved Temple football, but come on... just because they have started to win regular season games shouldn't make him a candidate for the Penn State job if Paterno leaves. Temple hasn't even won a division or a MAC Championship yet. Or a bowl game for that matter.
I just don't see what the fascination is with Al Golden.
