Zach Maynard has left UB
UB Athletics has announced that QB Zach Maynard has left the Buffalo football program.

"I'm very disappointed in Zach's decision to leave our program prior to
getting to know our coaching staff,” said head coach Jeff Quinn. “That being said, we are
only interested in guys that are passionate about being a Buffalo Bull in
our football family. In line with our "Next Bull In" philosophy, we will not
let this deter us from our goal of playing for championships.”

Woah. Where's he heading?

It's not like his spot as the starter was in question under the new coach.

It may have been... Then again that might not be the reason.

I had someone close to the program send me an email last week telling me that Maynard was extremely unhappy with the new coaching staff. While, thankfully, I was spared the specifics as to weather it was the coaches or the offensive system they wanted to be put into place I was told that it was likely that Maynard was going to transfer. Without specifics, or first hand knowledge from anyone on the team/staff, I decided to keep my mouth shut as rumor mongering is something I find contemptible. But sadly, today, UB announced Maynard will seek his future elsewhere.

I thought the comments after the blogpost were pretty respectful. Good to see.

The completely baseless rumor floating around is Clemson...

Geographically, the odds are in your prediction's favor.

Har har har. I was thinking maybe the University of Maine 03-wink

I guess missing the word 'the' changes my prediction's intentions :)

RE: Zach Maynard has left UB
It's too bad. I was one of the few UB fans that was always optimistic about Maynard's play. He had a very interesting skill set that could have developed over the next two years. Unfortunately we'll never see that happen.

With that said, I'm excited to see our other Quarterbacks get a chance. Jerry Davis hasn't played much, but he's gone 8/15 for 145 yards and a touchdown in his limited action. Alex Dennison will have 4 years of eligibility after red shirting last year and looking just as good as Davis or Maynard in summer camp, and Rudy Johnson is an exciting new recruit that has a lot of experience in a spread offense.

It will hurt to lose the most experienced quarterback on the roster, no doubt, but UB is not dead in the water. Hopefully.

That doesn't sound good for either Maynard or UB. Not good.

Wow, just wow. I thought Maynard was really good for a first year player. The only thing he lacked, imo were the touch passes. He has a rocket arm and he's obviously fast and elusive. Jerry Davis looked pretty good though in mop up duty.

No big loss. No way in heck would I want him firing the ball all over the field in a spread offense. The backup QB looked good in the time that he played. UB also has a three-star QB who redshirted last year a verbal from another three-star QB.

The new UB coach was basically the brains behind Brian Kelly at Cincinnati. Jeff Quinn will turn whoever he gets into a statistical monster, just like Ben Mauk, Tony Pike, and Zach Collaros. I expect Jerry Davis will have a great year at QB.

I hope Quinn does a good job at Buffalo. However, if he was truly the brains behind Kelly he wouldn't have been passed up as an interim twice. I don't know if he was in the mix for the head at GVSU too. As much as I hate to say it now I think Kelly is the offensive brain behind Kelly.

You are naive if you think Jeff Quinn was anything other than the OL coach on Kelly's staff.

I got to know Jeff Quinn a little bit during his brief stint as CMU's interim head coach after Kelly left. Very nice guy and qualified for the job. But this statement is rather ridiculous.

UB should have hired the RB coach of a 7-6 team. That makes much more sense.
