Does ETSU have hostesses?
I think I would have heard about it if they did, but does ETSU have any hostess (or host) groups to take the prospective athletes around campus?

The story about the NCAA investigating Tennessee for their hostess improprieties (there is something VERY fishy about college co-eds going 200 miles away to try and lure 17-year-old boys) got me thinking.

Regardless, it is probably time for the SEC to take the lead on this and retire the hostess squads. Despite the claims to the contrary, there are plenty of stories of high school football players losing their virginity to said hostesses.

There's something rather creepy, if you ask me, about 18-22 year old women volunteering to get to know the incoming freshman athlete squad. There is something rather creepy about a father letting his daughter do something along these lines.

The University of Tennessee! A leader in business administration- communications- and MILF PORN DEVELOPMENT!

Here's a story from 1987 in Sports Illustrated on the practice of hostessing- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/a.../index.htm

Interesting tidbits-

The house mom of the Florida squad never went to college.

Western Carolina had/has a squad.

Ole Miss went on probation for having their hostess squad meet prospective athletes at their home town (way to know the rules, Lane).

And if there is something so unbelievable about Orange Honeys or whatever they call them being something other than the epitome of morality and virtue, I ask Kiffin to do this-

Put Layla on the squad.

I'll bet ETSU does not. Just a hunch.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
I didn't read the article, but the climate of "hostesses" in NCAA athletics today is far removed from 1987, as are most things in the way of recruiting improprieties. The NCAA changed the rule in the early 2000's that these ambassador groups cannot be all female. They also cannot be exclusively for athletics recruiting. These hostesses are the same students who give campus tours to all prospective students (they're usually called ambassadors or some similar name). Now, I'm sure they are picking the prettiest girls out of the general group to give the prospective student athletes their "campus tour" but there is no way that a ban on all student ambassador groups would be possible. They are monitoring it the right way currently I think.

That said, I don't think ETSU has hostesses of the like mentioned at Tennessee.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
Oh, so now we have hunks showing around the prospective female athletes. As if there isn't an even greater chance of impropriety to happen there!

I have overlooked recruiting trips that Pitt football players have been on. Usually a coach, not a hostess, shows the player around the neighborhood. If memory serves the coach I saw doing the touring was rather gruff and rushing through things.

But I would submit to you that if Pitt can do it that way, and if ETSU doesn't have 'em, it IS possible to get the student ambassador groups to disolve.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
Well in order for ETSU to have hostesses we'd have to have some good looking girls that like the Bucs. We can't even get good looking cheerleaders, and they get $$$.

If it involves having money then it is a pretty good chance ETSU does not have it.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
I spoke with some younger friends of mine who were recruited by ETSU and they said they didn't have any hostesses. Now that is a small sample size but they were unaware of such a program. Maybe others can chime in.

One of my friend said the closest thing he got to hostesses at State was a grandmother type with those hostess cookies.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
I know the basketball team has "people come over" when recruits visit. Not an official hostess program though.

Probably not for basketball, but maybe for something more important like tennis or soccer.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
I was talking to someone earlier today and they claim that ETSU had hostesses at some point when we still had football. Personally I don't remember it, but they swore they had them at one time.

Just-A-Fan,
I think they did have something along those lines when I was a student in the late70's-early 80's. I think they were called "Bucanneer Pride" or something like that. Does anyone else remember?

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
My question is "would they do it if they could afford it?" I have to think probably not.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
I was just sent a message saying ETSU did have hostesses at one time, but they were phased out approximately 10 years ago.

That is quite surprising. I would have thought no since it costs money.

Read between the lines.

They had hostesses BEFORE Stanton.

Got it. Sometimes I am a little slow. I guess a lot of things do not have money now like they used to.

RE: Does ETSU have hostesses?
Well, ETSU was always a bit stingy before Stanton, too, but the professors are now on their fifth year without a pay raise.

Yet there are more students than ever! The pharmacy school is a success! We have these new facilities for the revenue-drawing sports of golf, softball, and soccer!
