Two thousand season tickets
Reading about the "Back to Brooks" game, I am reminded how ETSU is saying they have 2,000 season ticket holders for basketball.

Isn't that really, really, really low for a school that is coming off an NCAA appearance and has made three NCAAs and one NIT in the past seven years?

I would expect Dobyns-Bennett High School to have 2,000 season tickets. I think the Tennessee Smokies would have 2,000 season tickets.

We simply can't hear any longer how ETSU is "winning the right way." People simply aren't buying it, and this number proves it.

I don't know, makes pretty good sense to me, there are only about 2K seats in the dome that aren't bleachers that have good sight lines.

Somehow, I think when the program averaged 8,000 a game the sightlines were the same.

Is seat No. 3,200 at The Vault really that much worse than, say, seat 3,200 in Madison Square Garden? I've been to both venues and don't really think so.

Yes, but the 4 years you speak of with the 8K attendance were for the best team in the schools history. People put up with the crappy building to watch a really good team.

Really? I find this idea a little ridiculous.

How many years has the program actually averaged 8,000 fans? It's getting kind of old to hear you talk about what "should be" happening, when it's never been the norm at ETSU.

Letsgo, you are catching on. If half of my fan base was this negative and out of touch I would never come to the message board.

No, I hear you. But I'd like you to consider this.

We were told by David Mullins, outright, that 2007 was the greatest year in the history of ETSU athletics.

Simply put, if people believed that, they'd be buying more season tickets for the marquee sport at ETSU, ESPECIALLY after an NCAA berth.

Figure the C of C game. We go with a 2,000 base. Then I'm going to make an educated guess that there were about 600 tickets sold in the weeks before the game to people who liked the idea of going to a Sunday game against a quality opponent, especially since there was a local player on the Cougars' roster (admittedly he was injured, but you don't know that if you buy your ticket a few weeks ahead of time as usually is the case), 150 students who either stuck around or came back early from vacation or live in the area, and then that's about 300 walk-up after a real nice victory against a SEC opponent.

This also assumes ETSU did not jack up the attendance by counting media, players, ticket takers, and the like- which traditionally college teams have been known to do.

That's sickly. That's not the fault of the facility- that's the fans who simply aren't buying what ETSU is telling them.

If they baseball team is good, it doesn't necessarily make me want to buy basketball tickets.

I know many people who are season basketball ticket holders for Memphis basketball, who only buy football tickets at the gate. I know many UT football season ticket holders who don't go to UT basketball games at all.

Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Wait a minute!

I thought at ETSU it was about the entire Infrastructure!

And since nobody was buying tickets at the gate after the Arkansas game, what is your point there?

Attendance and interest is being impacted by the loss of football. Bottom line.

If we had the Mister teams right now, attendance and interest would be great. People want to see good teams play. If you have a great basketball team and a crappy football team, people don't buy football tickets, they buy basketball tickets. At least unless they are made to, by the basketball program.

It is the same in reverse, if the football team is good, people don't buy more baskeball tickets. I mean is Alabama going to be building a new basketball arena because their football team is doing well.

RE: Two thousand season tickets
BUT NORTHEAST- THE BASKETBALL TEAM IS COMING OFF AN NCAA BERTH!

Maybe that's not No. 17 in the country- though I would state the Bucs did make it as far in the NCAAs last year as they did in the No. 17 season.

But the level of success is not 5,000 fans worth of a gap.

And you know that.

Bottom line- this program should be selling more than 2,000 season tickets coming off an NCAA berth. They did before, and so we can only assume it is retaliation against an administration you are seemingly in love with.

I'm worried about your poor debating tactics.

Reason that ETSU should sell more than 2,000 season tickets after an NCAA season, and you feel I'm halucinating.

Yet I am the one who is perceived as negative.

Right.

Right.

Because anyone that would argue that football has anything to do with poor attendance for a basketball game is obviously hallucinating. I'm just making an assumption that it isn't due to mental imbalance, so, acid is the next logical choice.

Anyone who would believe the tripe that comes from ETSU administration isn't necessarily halucinating, but certainly has an agenda to advance.

RE: Two thousand season tickets
Let's see, since Kentucky's basketball team is finally back in national prominence and doing well, I guess their football team can expect increased attendance next year. Great for them.

I guess we should see a huge increase in Alabama's basketball attendance over the last few years, since their football team has done so well the last two years. Great for their basketball team.

What alternative universe is this? Makes no sense.

RE: Two thousand season tickets
What makes no sense is the analogies you make.

It is certainly reasonable that the reason for decreased ETSU attendance is that the public at large is upset with the direction of the athletic programs.
