Plenty of Seats Available for Toledo vs OSU
The floodgates were opened on Monday. Anyone can buy tix. No donation required.

This should piss off the OSU fans who bought their tix early through Toledo even more! And that makes me happy.

Actually, the exact opposite occurred. People waited until Monday. Went online to buy tix. Some people bought up to EIGHT seats. No limit. Toledo couldn't sell all of the seats.

That's a shame. Toledo could have held out for another month and got that much more donations. And the whole time act like they wouldn't open the floodgates. Of course people are going to wait if they know it will be cheaper in the near future.

It was a decent idea. Ultimately, they just don't have enough fans and the idea failed miserably. The stadium will be 80% OSU fans minimum.

How did it fail miserably? When did Toledo ever say that there would not be 80% OSU fans?

Everything worked out the way MOB wanted it to. Rocket fans got first pick of the best seats, and that was ensured by requiring you to be a season ticket holder or donor. Any OSU fans that wanted to get those great seats would have to donate money.

Season tickets are up at UT the last couple of years because of promoting this game the way they did. Donations are also up. This was a way to get the casual UT fans to either buy season tickets or donate money if they wanted to go to this game, and it has shown in the increase of season tickets and athletic donations. I've also heard from several OSU fans that donated money to UT to get tickets, so obviously they did get OSU fans to do this as well.

MOB always hoped to sell as many of UT's 58K allotment with UT season tickets or donations required and he got as many as was possible. The rest will still be sold and MOB made sure that UT fans, faculty, donors, and students had first crack by having the policy he did and now the rest can be sold to the public, and at that very high ticket price that was set. The money from the 58K allotted to UT will still go to UT and they will still bring in a couple of million dollars on ticket sales alone.

Can't believe I'm going to agree with RF but it's true. Toledo gets the Buckeye fans $$$$$$. Don't see how adding a couple of million $$$$$$ revenue to the budget is seen as a failure.

Toledo is still getting ticket revenue. However, the talk was that it would be 60/40 OSU to Toledo fans. They thought they would be getting all of these donations from OSU fans to buy tickets early. Neither scenario happened. It will be at least 80/20 and the donations from OSU fans to buy tickets were in the extreme minority.

Talk was it would be 80-20. Talk was it would be 20-80. Talk was it would be 60-40 and 40-60 and 27.3-80 (that was BG talk03-wink). Talk is cheap and you could find somebody to support just about any scenario you wanted to believe.

We walk away with a huge pot of dough and hopefully a victory. But minimally, the dough.

There's always a lot of "talk." But, in this case, any educated discussion started with the premise that OSU would fill the majority of the seats. With that as a given, the next two questions were ...

1) How can we give Toledo fans a shot at the best seats possible?

and

2) How can we maximize revenue?

Seems like they did a pretty good job at both.

Yeah, I gotta concur. They did all they could...but really how could they lose? They were gonna make more than playing a game at OSU any day of the week.

OSU fans buying early were just dumb anyways. There is always a boat load of reasonably priced tickets available for buckeye games verses MAC schools.

And yes, I never expected more than 20-25% of the fans to be rocket faithful.

After riding in the alumni buses down to OSU when we played them there, I'm not the least bit bothered by WHATEVER combination of fans show up, so long as they show up. For that game, I had to share an alumni bus with a number of jackasses dressed in their freaking scarlet and gray...nice alumni, eh! But that's how it is. So you make the most out of your reality, and there you go. UT still many $$$$$$$$$ ahead.

That's what they should have done. But, I don't know what the terms of their contract were.

Does Toledo do tickets sold and fans in the seats for attendance purposes? If the season is not going well, it will interesting to see how many unused season tickets there are in November.

I expect the Rockets to be #1 or #2 in the MAC for football attendance.

If OSU fans can only purchase tickets through UT, then Toledo is selling all of the seats. Who cares how many they buy? Let them buy them all at $50 or $60 a piece. I'm sure Mike O'Brien is having a fun time counting all of the money he is raising for his department.

I agree Toledo will be #1 or #2. They usually are at or near the top. My point is how many new season-ticket holders just simply for the OSU game? We will likely never know.

RE: Plenty of Seats Available for Toledo vs OSU
Perhaps the tickets Gooch was talking about before were from OSU's allotment for the game, because UT has not started selling tickets to the public yet. They will on July 27th though. This is from UT's media office:

The University of Toledo announced today that the remaining tickets for the Sept. 19 football game vs. Ohio State at Cleveland Browns Stadium will go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 27 at the UT Athletic Ticket Office only beginning at 9:00 a.m. There will be no phone orders or online orders taken for these tickets.

A limited number of tickets in the $45 and $55 sections remain, according to UT athletic ticket manager Roseann Croop.

The fact that no online or phone orders will be taken, means that OSU fans that are not in the Toledo area will need to make a bit of a drive to purchase tickets from UT. This means there is a greater chance of Toledo area residents getting these tickets. This is kind of a thank you to the Toledo community, even if they are not UT fans.
