I'm sorry....I can't really get into "Carabou Barbie."

Of course. I can't get into Romney, Huckabee, or Newt either.

I hear that since David Petraeus isn't going to get Chairman of the JCS, he might retire next year and test the waters.

The timing is very bizarre. You don't need to quit quite yet even if you are intending to run for president in 2012. I suspect we'll find out the reason why in a week or two.

If there is a Governor's primary in Alaska early next year, perhaps to "clear the field" and give others a chance?

Someone forgot to tell Sarah that, yes, the point guard drives the lane, then passes the ball of to teammates to score, but she doesn't go sit on the bench and lead cheers for the rest of the game! One of the absolutely dumbest analogies I've heard in a long time. Who on earth is her speechwriter?

Moreover, who is her political strategist? A few talking heads think she's planning some kind of unorthodoz, circuitous route to national leadership, but who are they kidding? In addition to all of the Democrats who didn't trust her, it will take a huge effort for Independents to see her as anything but a quitter.

RE: Palin Resigns
I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt for now, although I'm not likely to have voted for her anyway. I think the one thing that would be extremely personal in all of this (and may not be specifically raised) is her special needs son. He's starting to get to an age where he's not just an infant any more. I don't have a Downs kid, but I've seen/experienced enough to know how difficult raising a special needs child can be.

I would not be surprised if that's it for her political aspirations, but I could very well see her in a Bill Bennett/Al Gore kind of advocacy role (for things they view important).

Petraeus is a pretty bright guy. If I recall it right, he has a PhD from Princeton. But I simply do not see him as presidential material. I would think he has about as much chance as a snowball in hell.

RE: Palin Resigns
One thing we've found in recent years is that the conventional wisdom candidate four years before an election often does not materialize. A lot of people in 2004 thought it would be George Allen or Jeb Bush on the Republican line in 2008.

I'd like to hope that people take Palin at her word that she wants to step away and do something else, but if this is so that she can spend more time at fundraisers in the Lower 48, what she's going to lose what drew people to her; a no-nonsense person from outside the establishment who can get things done. The more time she spends at Republican Fundraisers and hanging out at conservative think-tanks the more she will lose her authenticity.

And the parodies begin...

Not to say that I'm not wondering what water tanks some of these recent Republicans have been drinking from. Bizarro world, I guess.
