NTR- Severe Weather
Everyone:

Eastern Arkansas and the "river counties" of West TN and North Miss are under a PDS Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7:00pm. It currently looks as though the line will enter Eastern AR around 4:00pm and hit the Memphis area right around rush hour...Here is the unusually strong wording from the Storm Prediction Center:

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

MUCH OF ARKANSAS
PARTS OF NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI
PARTS OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA
PARTS OF WESTERN TENNESSEE

EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY MORNING AND EVENING FROM 1135 AM UNTIL 700
PM CDT.

...THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION...

EXTREMELY DAMAGING THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 105 MPH...LARGE
HAIL TO 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE
POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

I know most folks will blow this off, but 105mph winds are about what Hurricane Elvis was when it moved through. Plus, it looks like this might hit about the height of rush hour.

The SPC doesn't issue very many "PDS" watches...they mean business when they do. Best thing that could happen is that we get a few thunderstorms here to stabilize the atmosphere before this puppy gets really wound up. Unfortunately if we do, they will most likely be severe though. Damaging winds and large hail will be likely with any storms that do come up this afternoon. There isn't much of a tornado threat, more of an extremely damaging wind threat.

Be safe.

RE: NTR- Severe Weather
yep...I was at lunch and they asked everyone in the restaurant to file into the restrooms about 12:30 today because of a tornado in NW Arkansas. It's a pretty large and potent weather band, so get ready.

PDS= Particularly Dangerous Situation

They issue PDS watches when they expect weather to be exceptionally bad. We were under a PDS Tornado Watch when the tornado that came through in Feb 08 happened.

Not to get to technical...and don't let your guard down yet...but it looks like the most concentrated part of the severe winds may move south of here...Should reach Little Rock by 2-3pm....then continue Southeast...but the atmosphere is extremely unstable...which isn't good.

I love storms too...the thunder and lightning ones...when the wind gets going I get scared though. Hopefully this one won't be bad.

105mph wind gusts? Dang! I love watching storms as well but NOT when wind gusts have potential like that. Thanks for the heads up!

I bet that you would not have liked 105 mph if it hit you from the side of that scooter.
